Jennifer Pomfret (retired nurse) Postgraduate Diploma Integrative Counselling

I am a qualified counselling psychotherapist and I have a small private practice where I offer telephone and face to face counselling.I offer counselling to individuals and couples. I retrained as a therapist after many years employed as a nurse where I specialised in working with stroke patients. Additionally, I have been involved in education, teaching and research both prior and upon completing my psychotherapy training. I have several years post qualifying experience and I attend ongoing monthly supervision with a qualified supervisor to support my practice.
My training and experience;
I have undertaken four years training, two of which have involved an intensive Postgraduate Diploma in Counselling and Psychotherapy at the University of Central Lancashire. I am a member of BACP (British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy ) which sets out the standards for therapeutic practice for counsellors and psychotherapists and is the largest professional body representing Counseling and Psychotherapy in the UK. As a member, I work within strict ethical guidelines that govern best practice for counselling, and as such I adhere to key ethical principles. These include; honouring the trust based in myself by my clients, respect for my clients to be self governing, a commitment to promoting client's wellbeing and avoiding harm, providing a fair service to clients, and self respect by fostering my own self knowledge and care for myself.
As well as working for myself, I have worked for several years with Primary Mental health services, where I managed referrals, undertook client assessments referring on as appropriate,assessed risk, developed personalised treatment plans, undertook regular client reviews and client evaluations. Additionally I received extensive training and guidance working within Data protection legislation, Clinical Governance and Confidentiality policies.
The type of therapy I offer;
My Integrative Psychotherapy training has a humanistic theoretical base, together with a number of different approaches that I incorporate into my client work.Some of my interventions include Solution focused techniques, Motivational interviewing, Cognitive interventions, Problem solving, Goal setting and Anxiety management. All are evidence based techniques and support current best practice guidelines.
I work with you in a way that offers you a safe, comfortable and confidential space.I don't judge you but listen to what you have to say, supporting you to explore your experiences, thoughts and feelings at a deeper level, encouraging self reflection, in order for you to gain a better understanding of yourself and so enabling you to make your own decisions with regard to issues you find troubling. In my work I endeavour to help my clients to gain a better understanding of their difficulties, and this in turn can help a person to consider different ways of dealing with issues both in the past, present and future. This often allows that sense of 'stuckness', which often accompanies emotional discomfort to shift,and thus enables and empowers an individual to move forward in their life.
I understand this is a difficult time for you and looking for a counsellor can be confusing and overwhelming. Please do feel free to contact me if you have any questions or you would like to have an informal chat on the phone. Also the first session is at a reduced rate which may be an opportunity for you to experience a no obligation counselling session to see if this is the right way forward for yourself. Additionally if you scroll further down please click on the video link which gives me an opportunity to introduce myself to you.
