About me

I'm a Gestalt Psychotherapist offering short term and open ended psychotherapy and couples counselling.  I bring 25 years professional experience, including working extensively in the NHS and Higher Education.  I'm particularly skilled in helping people navigate times of darkness and uncertainty.

I have specialist training and skills in working with intimacy and sexual issues that arise within couples and individuals.  My expertise also includes working with unresolved complex trauma and is underpinned by neuroscience, somatic practices, and mindfulness practices.

My background as a mental health NHS professional means I bring an additional specialism in helping people with depression, generalised anxiety disorder, addictions, and eating issues.  I can also help with work related stress, building resilience and cultivating a more meaningful life.

As a Gestalt Therapist my approach is holistic, embodied and relational.  I am interested in exploring and understanding feelings, beliefs, dreams, and expressions in the body.  I am also skilled in working relationally i.e. attending to the dynamics between us, and using our therapeutic relationship as a tool for growth.

I provide a dynamic, warm, and professional space in which you can explore past or current issues.  I'm passionate about my work and believe a balance of support and challenge is essential to making changes.  I practice in a collaborative way, so that together we can create a therapeutic relationship where you feel understood and accepted.

In addition I offer life coaching which can support you in clarifying the direction of your life and take effective action to achieve your potential and optimise your quality of life.  I can help you to recognise and build on existing strengths, and develop effective approaches to your work, relationships and personal wellbeing.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have substantial professional experience of working with a wide range of emotional and psychological issues, often related to trauma.  I have supported many individuals who experience difficulties in relation to: depression, anger, anxiety, bereavement, eating issues, self harming, suicidal thoughts and alcohol/drug issues.  Some of the common themes include loss, lack of control, low self worth and difficulties relating to others.

I hold a post graduate diploma in Gestalt Therapy as well as a post graduate diploma in Gestalt Psychotherapy.  I also hold a Diploma in Contemporary Trauma Studies and have specialist skills in working with trauma. I am a professionally trained couples counsellor and a have completed an advanced training in working with couples.  I also have completed a specialist 18 month training on working with intimacy and sexual related issues.

I am an accredited member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy MBACP (Accred).  Further training in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Motivational Interviewing and Mindfulness allows me to integrate these approaches into my work if it seems appropriate.  I am registered with BUPA, WPA, AXA, Vitality and Aviva so if you have insurance you may be eligible for a course of therapy.

I have worked extensively in a variety of NHS settings as a mental health professional and I remain registered with the Health and Care Professionals Council (HCPC).  I also worked at a university creating an innovative Wellbeing Service to support the emotional and psychological needs of students and provided training, supervision and consultancy to staff.

Member organisations

Registered / Accredited

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Further information

As a member of BACP (Accred) I follow the Ethical Framework for good practice in Counselling and Psychotherapy.  I receive regular professional supervision, and I am committed to continuing professional and personal development.

I am deeply passionate and committed to my work as a psychotherapist, couples counsellor and life coach and believe that all experiences, especially the challenging one's, can lead to growth, insight and healing.

I believe it is important to choose a therapist that you can connect with.  Therefore I am happy to discuss any questions or concerns you may have about counselling and psychotherapy so that you can make a decision that is right for you.

In Cheltenham I practice at the Practice Rooms located in the very centre of Cheltenham in a peaceful pedestrian walkway.  It is a beautiful building and provides an ideal therapeutic setting.

Based on your specific needs I can offer couples counselling, psychotherapy or coaching, in person or online, so do please make contact if you would like to discuss these options further.
