I offer a warm, supportive presence, putting you, the client, at the centre of our work together. I have a variety of skills and experience, which I draw on as appropriate. These include working with grief and loss, anxiety and depression, and with anger and communication skills. My theoretical background is person-centred and Gestalt; I also have CBT training. However, I aim to work in a creative and flexible way, responding to each person's unique needs, and relating to the whole person, not only their 'problem', whether that is bereavement, relationship issues, work-related stress or any other. Many people find that mind and body are intimately related, and we can work with relaxation techniques which can relieve both emotional and physical symptoms.
Above all, I will accept you for who you are, without judging either you or the issues that bring you to counselling. No problem is too small - if it causes you distress, it is important. On the other hand, I have experience in working with people whose life history has been violent or traumatic. If I believe that you need more specialised support than I can offer, I will do my best to help you find that.
Visualisation and writing therapy can be an integral part of the counselling process for those comfortable with working in these ways.
I also offer coaching in communication skills.
I can accompany those looking for support in exploring their own spirituality.
Some people find that they can experience positive change around a specific problem in just a few sessions, others choose to work for longer and in greater depth on longstanding distress or more complex issues. I can create a safe space for this exploration and gently support you through it.
I work with individual adults. I also offer telephone counselling by appointment.
I am based in between Ashburton and Newton Abbot in a beautiful rural setting. Other facilities eg cafe available on site. There is free parking, and easy access for those with mobility issues. I can also see clients in central Ashburton if preferred.
