About me

There are very few of us who get away with never having some form of stress in our lives. As much as we may not want to admit it at these times we do need help. A friendly caring counsellor can make more difference than you think to even the seemingly most difficult ( or even smallest) situation. I can work with all areas of concern. Please give me a call if you feel you like you would like to talk about this in more detail.

MY QUALIFICATIONS and SKILLS
I primarily use a person centred approach with CBT skills. More often I tend to work integratively, though if I feel a purest approach is required in any particular case then I will use this. I have worked for various Employer Assistance Programs (EAP) for a number of years. My work with EAP's has given me a huge number of skills working with people from all areas of life from the counselling of street cleaners to medical consultants through the BMA. I really enjoy my work, nothing beats the thrill of feeling you have helped someone get to the emotional place they want to be in their lives. As a result of my significant experience I am able to work directly with employees cutting out the EAP intermediary.

As a person centred counsellor using an integrative approach I am able to work with all forms of difficulties. Some examples are anxiety and depression, relationship issues ( not couple counselling), , employment problems, bullying, confidence and low self esteem, trauma, rape and sexual abuse, historic childhood abuse, domestic violence, loss/ bereavement, suicidal thoughts. Middle years crisis, health (in particular ME/Fibromyalgia), bereavement.

I have worked with just as many men as women. There is no doubt men find it more difficult to make contact with counsellors but with statistics ever growing in relation to men of certain ages being more likely to commit suicide it is intrinsically important they seek help and do not feel they are a failure for doing so.

If you are incapacitated in some way I can even travel to you. Along with my many skills in all areas of need I also I have several years experience working as a counsellor with long term health issues

Training, qualifications & experience

My qualification is a Diploma in Counselling and Psychotherapy gained from the University of Warwick. I have several years experience counselling in all areas of difficulty. I worked for a number of years counselling with people who had suffered rape and sexual abuse as well as domestic violence. I have also worked for charities for people having varying difficulties in their lives so I am experienced in working with all forms of difficulties.

I have also been trained in Trauma counselling.

I have a fully up to date DBS Clearance.
And have full personal indemnity insurance.
As noted earlier I am a registered member of the British Association for Counsellors and Pyschotherists. MBACP

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Other areas of counselling I deal with

Do you suffer from ME And/ Or Fibromyalgia?

I have worked as a specialist ME and Fibromyalgia counsellor for many years ( I worked for the ME association for several years). Often counselling can help this holistic illness by talking through the frustrations and the unfairness in the way it impacts on your every day life. I am an opponent of the NHS aprroach using Graded Exercise Therapy (GET) and CBT. I believe this illness can 'improve' in time using combination of good quality counselling and PACEING. Please feel free to call me if you want to talk about this further. Sessions for people with chronic illness can be reduced to 1/2 hr if necessary to conserve energy. Either face to face, over the phone, Skype (video or audio). Or via e mail.

Wheelchair user access

Wheelchair-accessible premises should have step-free access for wheelchair users and individuals who are unable to climb stairs. If a Counsellor's premises aren't step-free, they may offer alternative services such as telephone/web-based appointments, home visits, or meeting clients in different location, so you can choose the option that suits you best.

You can contact the Counsellor to discuss the options available.

Under the Equality Act 2010 service providers have a duty to make reasonable adjustments to ensure that individuals with disabilities can access their service. You can read more about reasonable adjustments to help you to access services on the CAB website.
