I am an Integrative Counsellor, experienced in working with anxiety, depression and difficult relationship issues. Being Integrative means I can use my knowledge and skill to recognise which approaches are likely to suit each individual best and then offer a range of approaches and techniques which can help .
I believe we all inherently know what is best for us, even though we sometimes forget to tap into our own resources. I like to keep my clients empowered throughout the process and review how they feel their process/progress is going on a regular basis, to me this is crucial, You are the expert on You. With this in mind I aim to form an alliance with my clients bringing together our fields of knowledge and expertise to explore their world, feelings ,thoughts , needs and desires. I offer a safe, non judgmental, supportive relationship to clients, providing opportunity to look at what the difficulties are and move on through them with increasing awareness. Through counselling I can help people to regain control of their lives. I am insightful , compassionate, realistic and imaginative. While its important to me to be supportive I can also be challenging when needed.
Contrary to popular belief, counselling isn't restricted to dealing with feelings of sadness, loss or anxiety, it can sometimes be imaginative ,creative and joyful. Some of the most healing and transformative work can be done with imagination and even laughter. Deciding to look at yourself in counselling is a brave step, but the rewards are significant , and potentially immeasurable.
Training, qualifications & experience
I have a CPCAB level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling Skills as well as a CPCAB Level 5 Diploma in Psychotherapeutic Counselling. This enables me to competently and safely work at a deeper level when needed . I also hold various Open University qualifications appropriate to mental health and well-being,including some in biological psychology and neuroscience .This facilitates my understanding of my clients difficulties with a bio-psycho-social perspective working from a range of theoretical backgrounds. My training involved acquiring a deep understanding of Gestalt, Body process and Transpersonal processing, as well as working confidently with CBT. This means that as an Integrative Therapist working in a primarily person-centered way, I can draw on a wide range of knowledge and expertise to help my clients explore and understand their feelings.
Without understanding or awareness we often react in both long and short terms ways to incidents, trauma's and relationships. These reactions may not always be helpful, or if they are initially they may not remain helpful long term. This is why I believe awareness of our feelings and processes is key. However I believe that while there is value in understanding the past and how we got to the place we are at today ,there is also value in looking at the present and considering strategies for a happier life in the future.
Having worked out of children's centre's with parents, staff and grandparents for some years, alongside my private practice ,I now also work for the NHS.

My fee is £40 an hour, with some concessions available for people in receipt of certain benefits. I believe therapy should be available for everyone regardless of income levels. It is often when things go wrong for us that we need to come to counselling which can also be times when we have less disposable income.
I am experienced in dealing with relationship issues and often support clients experiencing bullying, and abuse ,including sexual abuse. I have worked with both male and female survivors of childhood and/or adult sexual abuse. I have been privileged enough to support clients using the awareness they gain, and the therapeutic relationship, to turn their lives around sometimes achieving quite remarkable transformations.
No issue that affects a persons life is too small, if its bothering you then counselling can help you to process what its all about and move through it to a happier life. People seek out counselling for all sorts of reasons, in parts of America it is popular culture and considered healthy to see a "therapist" weekly, sometimes just to process the week, its all part of self care as important as taking medicine and being active.
During sessions clients can build an awareness of their short and long term behaviour and relating patterns, the major influences in their life and how these have affected them. They learn about their strengths, explore what change they want , what is possible and advantageous and how they can make such changes.
Counselling can also transform a persons self image and self esteem. Clients can learn who they really are, separating that out from who others have told them they are, and go forward into the future with knowledge of who they have been, who they are now , who they want to be and how to be that person!
