Nestled down a quiet and charming village lane, Solace Counselling offers a peaceful, confidential sanctuary, a place of safety where you can feel at ease to talk openly in a supportive, relaxed environment. For more information please visit my website: www.solacecounsellingservices.co.uk

As an experienced Counsellor I work with Men and Women covering a wide range of issues which includes anxiety, depression, relationship issues and bereavement. By providing a warm, supportive, confidential and safe environment I aim to help you to explore and gain a better understanding of yourself. Counselling assists you to find solutions to areas in your life that may be troubling you. It can be a great relief to share your worries and fears with someone who acknowledges your feelings and is trained to help you reach a positive solution and improve your well-being.

By choosing private counselling you appoint a counsellor of your choice with times that are convenient to you; I offer daytime and evening appointments. Fee £45 per 50 minute session for self-funded sessions.

Please feel free to contact me directly on: 07734000257 If I am with a client and not available you are welcome to leave a message and I will return your call on the same day or alternatively you can email me on the link above.

Please see listed below my areas of specialism and issues that I work with:

Bereavement
Bereavement Counselling may be able to provide you with support during very difficult times.  People have described their loss to me as totally life changing; they feel as though they have lost a part of their own lives which they will never get back.  Each person has their own unique way of dealing with grief and their own coping mechanisms.  Bereaved people are changed by the experience of their loss, they do not necessarily 'get over it' however a transformation takes place whereby the bereaved person learns to live again and come to terms with their loss in their own unique way.  I will accompany you on that bereavement journey helping you to manage your grief, respecting your thoughts, views and feelings and provide you with the comfort and support needed as you find your own way through.

Bereavement due to traumatic/sudden death
I have experience working for a well known charity to deliver resilience building programmes. These programmes have been designed specifically for people bereaved through traumatic circumstances. I can provide those of you who have experienced loss through sudden death with a set of skills to help you cope with stress, negative thoughts, anxiety, panic attacks, sleeplessness and nightmares.

Anxiety and Social Anxiety - Social anxiety is a term used to describe feelings of extreme anxiety, worry and distress in social situations. You may fear being judged by other people, feel anxious and on edge; you may experience physical symptoms such as heart racing, sweating and blushing and may worry and lack confidence about how to behave in social settings.  Research shows social anxiety affects both men and woman equally.  If you are affected by social anxiety you may find yourself avoiding social interaction, the consequences of this can lead to isolation and loneliness and in time can lead to depression.  Counselling can help you if you are suffering from social anxiety, there are skills and techniques you can learn, we will look at what causes your anxiety and what maintains it, please be assured social anxiety is a common problem and is treatable, you can learn to feel more positive about yourself and about life in general and over time develop an inner resilience so you will feel more confident and able to deal with life's challenges.

Depression
Life experiences shape your thought process and as a consequence affect how you relate to others and how you feel about yourself. Depression can affect anyone at any time, people are not always aware or conscious when they are sinking and experiencing feelings unknown to them before. If you feel unhappy or that life is a burden and these feelings persist and invade your everyday life early intervention such as counselling can potentially be life changing.

Dealing with a breakup: The breakup of a relationship can turn your whole life upside down, it is a loss of all the hopes and dreams you had for the future.  It can disrupt every aspect of your life; your work, your home and your friendship groups. Grieving the loss of your relationship and recovering from a painful breakup is a stressful and emotional experience. Worrying about what the future might look like can be overwhelming.  However, it’s important to know that you can and will move forwards from this experience. Talking through the pain, sadness and despair you may be feeling will take you one step closer to a more hopeful future, we will work together to build up your resilience and you will find the strength to move forwards.

Relationship Issues
There are times in all relationships when things don't run smoothly. An affair or betrayal does not have to mean the end of your relationship. If you are experiencing relationship issues and are willing to talk honestly and openly in a confidential environment about what is happening, you may find it will help you to understand yourself better, enable you to put things into perspective and find a way through your difficulties.

Couples: Communication
Do you feel that you listen attentively to what your partner is trying to communicate to you? Do you feel your partner listens sufficiently carefully to what you say? Breakdown in communication is central to all relationship issues; if you feel communication between you and your partner is deteriorating then talking to an experienced third person can help you to learn how to really listen. You may then discover what has caused the blocks in your communication and take the first steps towards improving your relationship.

Testimonial
"I don’t readily reveal myself to others but I found I was able to trust Jeanette straight away and shared things with her that I wouldn’t normally disclose. She gives me the impression that nothing would be too shocking or ridiculous or off-key to bring into the light of day. I feel I can safely entrust my feelings to Jeanette and she will help me work through them".

My background has been varied and my experience and knowledge includes working in schools as a youth worker, in the business sector as a company director, in education as a counselling lecturer and for a number of years I was on the Management Group for a voluntary counselling agency.  This experience has proven to be invaluable in my counselling work; it has enabled me to develop a greater awareness and understanding of issues that affect people of all ages and from all walks of life.

Loneliness
Are you struggling with loneliness, feeling exposed, empty and vulnerable? Talking about these feelings, acknowledging that they do exist and that what you are feeling is very real can help to ease the pain, it can help you feel a little lighter and more able to find ways to cope.

Terminal Illness:
If you've been diagnosed with a terminal illness, strong emotions and feelings can be overwhelming, you may find it helps to talk to a counsellor who is detached from the situation and is trained to listen and help you work through your feelings.

Counselling for Men: Statistics show men are at high risk of suicide across all age groups but particularly men under 50, this is a compelling reason why men should be encouraged to talk through their concerns with a professional counsellor.  I find I am now seeing a much higher percentage of men seeking counselling which is good news as it means men are no longer struggling alone in silence; they are beginning to recognise the benefits of talking through the problems that are affecting their ability to function in their normal day to day routines. If you are reading this article it’s important you know that Counselling provides you with the opportunity to explore your thoughts and feelings in much greater depth and it helps you develop a clearer understanding of your problems. Counselling provides you with strategies for overcoming negative thoughts and develops your resilience to manage your emotions in a more positive way. It helps build your confidence, can be motivating and uplifting and is a real tonic for your mental well-being. Talking to someone who shows you empathy, does not judge you and whose aim is to help you work towards a more hopeful and optimistic future is the first step towards making changes that may transform your life.

Counselling for carers of Dementia: The dementia care organisation state research shows carers are much more likely to experience poor health than those who don’t have caring responsibilities.  It is demanding physically and emotionally when supporting someone with dementia, emotional support can be crucial.  Talking through the difficulties you are experiencing of caring for a family member or friend with dementia can bring great relief.  It is essential you look after your own health if you are going to continue to be an effective carer.  Counselling is an excellent support line for carers struggling to cope, talking through your feelings can help you to understand why you feel the way you do and is a positive step forwards in helping you to manage your role and cope with the life changes.  I have experience of working with dementia and understand how this disease affects the individual and how daunting it can be for the caregiver, I will support you on this journey and help you to adapt to the new challenges.

Talking to a trained Counsellor
Individuals act differently to issues such as affairs and betrayal, bereavement, terminal illness, work related difficulties, stress or depression and these differences need to be understood. It can be helpful talking through these problems with a counsellor to put things into perspective and to try to make sense of what is happening. Sometimes this can be achieved over a couple of sessions sometimes it takes a while longer. Counselling gives you the time, space and importantly the confidentiality to talk about worries and fears in a non-judgmental and empathic environment.

How does counselling help you? As a qualified professional with a considerable amount of experience of working with people in distress, I can provide you with tools that will be effective in improving your mental wellbeing. These can be particularly helpful if you are having difficulties with memories constantly replaying or if you are feeling anxious, experiencing low mood and having difficulty sleeping.  We will look at what is stopping you from functioning in a way that you would normally have managed before  and I will help you to recognise what it is that is making you feel so vulnerable.

In our counselling sessions we will explore your thoughts, feelings and behaviour to help you identify what changes you can make to help you in your recovery.  Counselling is your chance to talk about the things that make you sad, anxious and generally unhappy.  Talking with a counsellor to help you understand yourself better can be quite liberating and life changing; it can empower you to feel so much more confident and able to deal with the pressures and uncertainty of everyday living.

My practice covers the South Leicestershire area with bases in Wigston and Narborough which are convenient to Countesthorpe, Cosby, Blaby, Lutterworth, Enderby, Huncote, Whetstone, Thorpe Astley, Glen Parva, Broughton Astley, Earl Shilton, and Kirby Muxloe. Our first initial meeting lasts for one hour in which a history is taken and you have the opportunity to talk through the difficulties you are experiencing. This allows for me to clearly understand the problems you wish to address and work through. It enables us to ensure that counselling is the best way forward for your needs and that you feel comfortable and trust working with me as your counsellor. If it is appropriate we then agree a time for subsequent counselling sessions which will be on an open ended basis.
