Profile
Whether you have a specific problem or situation in your life (such as bereavement, depression or relationship difficulties), or more a sense that your life is unfulfilling or lacking direction, counselling may be able to help. I do not give advice or offer solutions to difficulties, but by listening actively in our conversations and drawing on my training and experience, I can help you to work your way through confusion and 'stuckness,' so that possible solutions can become clearer.
I have been working as a counsellor for seven years, and before that worked extensively with adults planning to change the direction of their lives. I am an accredited member of my professional organisation (BACP), which means that I have completed a process which confirms for them my professional, ethical and personal standards.
With individuals, I work psychodynamically. This involves exploring current problems or difficulties and sometimes tracing back how these might have developed from childhood circumstances and events. Understanding the ongoing influence of these early experiences can enable an individual to let go of repeating patterns from the past and to take more control over their life now.
With couples I also work systemically by paying close attention to current environmental factors and relationship patterns.
I see clients for sessions at the same time once a week, and provide both short-term or long-term counselling. We would decide at our first or second session which would suit your needs best, but this is always open to change as we progress.
