About me

Hi there, I'm Jayne, a qualified and professional person-centred counsellor with experience at working in the voluntary sector for several years and more recently in an NHS service. I am also a registered member of the BACP. Although my foundation is person-centred I often work in an integrative way to ensure the counselling is tailor made to suit you as "one size does not fit all". I realise that, initially, approaching a counsellor can seem daunting, my therapeutic approach is very down to earth which I hope puts my clients at ease.

You might be asking, What is counselling all about? How can talking change anything? Counselling is about providing a warm, safe environment in which you can explore any issues or concerns without being judged. It is about offering a therapeutic healing relationship in which your voice is always heard. It is about feeling empathy and understanding in this relationship. This environment and the therapeutic relationship are the catalyst for personal growth.

So, can talking change anything? Most definitely yes, none of us can change past events but counselling can give you the opportunity to make sense of what happened, to truly acknowledge your feelings and to be heard, which is often all that is needed to unhook us from the past and allow us to move forward with our life.

There are other issues that may bring you to counselling that perhaps do not seem related to past events, such as relationship issues and we can work on these together also. Often, having some additional understanding in varying styles of communication can provide further insight into your relationship and if you can see where the problem is then you can decide if you want this to change and how you can go about it.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
