About me
Making a decision to begin counselling is a personal process and it's hard to know who to choose. For this reason I offer an initial phone consultation so that you can find out if my experience and way of counselling will suit you. You can also call me to discuss any questions you may have and or look me up on my web site www.jhowiecounselling.co.uk
I have over 25 years of experience of helping people grow and develop and I'm easy to talk to, with a non-judgemental approach. I'm a friendly, compassionate counsellor who has experience in dealing with a range of issues from abuse, anxiety, addictions, to bereavement, depression and work and personal stress. Most people experience difficulties in life or will be involved in challenging relationships both personally or professionally. However, when situations become overwhelming or all consuming and affects your personal happiness then talking to a counsellor can help.I am also experienced Mindfulness trainer and can use this approach to help you find ways to deal with anxiety, depression and insomnia.
Sometimes trying to deal with it on your own can make things harder as we can fall into unhelpful patterns of thinking and behaving trapping us in cycles which are not beneficial. Counselling allows you to explore things in a safe place where you can be yourself without fear of being judged. It can help you feel less alone and more able to sort out your thoughts productively to help you feel more in control of your life and bring meaningful change.

In 2013 the NCS register was accredited by the Professional Standards Authority under the Accredited Voluntary Register Scheme. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).
Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.
Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.
All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

I work in partnership with you to raise awareness of what you think, feel and do to help you make informed choices and develop strategies to manage your difficulties and improve your mood. I have an integrated approach to counselling to ensure it meets the needs of the individual. In the first meeting we will talk about what you want need and expect from me as your counsellor to help you to decide if I'm the right counsellor for you.
