I maintain high professional standards, delivering Evidence Based Therapy recommended by the National Institute of Clinical Excellence (NICE). I also adhere to the professional standards of BABCP.
I provide a safe and non-judgmental environment to explore current difficulties and encourage feedback at the end of each session to ensure therapy is effective a good relationship is established. If you would like to arrange an assessment please contact me by phone or email.
I am trained to deliver CBT and EMDR, I attend specialist supervision for both of these therapies.
What is Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
CBT is a Psychological Intervention which is evidence based and recommended by NICE guidelines for depression, anxiety and various other difficulties. We will aim to gain an understanding of the difficulties which are currently impacting on you. CBT is collaborative (we work together) and involves work outside of sessions - evidence shows that those who compete work outside of sessions are more likely to experience a positive change.
Many individuals are trained in CBT skills; registration with the British Association of Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapists is a recognition of competence and expertise. I am an accredited member of BABCP and have completed a Post Graduate Certificate and Diploma in CBT at Queens University Belfast - this is the only BABCP accredited course in Northern Ireland and involves intensive training and supervision. I continue to attend supervision with a senior CBT therapist.
What is Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing (EMDR)
EMDR is a Psychological Intervention recommended by NICE guidelines for the treatment of Trauma. It involves using a set of standardised and evidence based procedures to help process memories underlying trauma symptoms. I have completed accredited training in EMDR, I am a member of the EMDR association and attend supervision with a consultant in EMDR.
What to expect from your first session
Often people feel apprehensive about attending therapy for the first time. Our first session will be an opportunity for you to hear what therapy can offer, we may also explore any potential apprehensions you have about therapy. We will begin an assessment at this session - this involves us having a conversation about the problems which have led you to therapy. From here we will discuss and agree therapy options and work towards helping you achieve your goals.
