About me

Welcome to Yorkshire Counselling Services.

I am a fully qualified Relate trained therapist with 13 years experience, specialising as a relationship and sex therapist, working with couples and individuals .

It can often feel difficult in asking for help and to put trust in someone you have never met, especially when we are often feeling upset and overwhelmed by  the issues we are facing. I can help you to work through difficulties such as feeling sad, anxiety, trauma, sexuality issues, sex / porn addiction, sexual problems, sexual abuse, affairs and betrayals, separation and divorce, communication, family issues, relationship issues or child related issues.

Seeking counselling support for the first time can feel daunting for a lot of people, I know what it can feel like to be in that position, having sought help myself.

I believe that the therapeutic relationship between counsellor and client is all important in helping support you to make the changes you are seeking. With this in mind, I offer you a safe, confidential, trusting, neutral and non judgemental space. I aim to make that process as easy and reassuring as I can and am happy to discuss any fears / concerns you may have.

It often feels like we may have somehow failed or its a last resort in trying to resolve difficulties. I have helped many people like yourself, who also felt unsure initially on what to expect and feelings of trepidation or embarrassment in asking for help.

In my experience and feedback received by clients, once they have made that initial step they often find at the end of the first appointment any fears, embarrassments and concerns they may have had have been alleviated.

By working in an integrative way (meaning that I work with a range of different theories), I am able to work in the best way that helps you the client. In my experience what works for one person doesn't for another, after all we are all different.

Whether you are a couple or as an individual facing issues around sex and intimacy, relationship difficulties with communication, arguing, managing a beak up, separation, family issues or suffering from anxiety, depression, low self esteem. I can help you to get things back to how you would like them to be.

Sexual issues are something most of us will experience at some point in our lives and can be a result of many differing factors. I understand that it can be particularly difficult to talk about and feel embarrassing. I understand the  impacts this can have on a relationship.

Psychosexual Therapy (PST) can help you overcome  issues such as low or loss of Sexual Desire, Vaginismus, Dyspareunia, Premature Ejaculation, Delayed Ejaculation, Erectile Dysfunction and Performance Anxiety. In addition, it can help improve your communication around sex and intimacy. Whilst  enhancing your sex life to be part of your healthy relationship.

I understand that there can be concerns about what coming to PST will involve, to reassure you, you would never be asked to do anything in the counselling room other than talk, the treatment plans are all individually tailored for the needs of the individual / couple using a range of theories including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy to achieve the goals set out by you the client.

In addition through my work with Survive North Yorkshire, I have 7 years experience of working with trauma, anxiety, depression, PTSD, counselling adult survivors of child sexual abuse, rape and sexual assault.

I offer a professional, discreet, confidential, friendly and relaxed Therapy and Counselling service in York, in a comfortable environment, operating from a central location in York with easy access. My services cover Psychosexual (Sex) Therapy, Sex Addiction, Couple / Relationship Counselling, Trauma Counselling and Young people Counselling.

Please email, phone or visit the website for further details and an informal chat.

I am able to offer counselling in my practice by phone, webcam or face to face.

Clinical Supervision

Due to the current situation counsellors / therapists have had to look at alternative ways of reaching out to our clients and being able to offer help and support by other means. This has meant for a lot a big change in how we work and to get used to the different nuances of working either online or by telephone can bring. There are obvious challenges working by these other mediums requiring new skills and considerations when working as an in these ways.

It is important that you have had some training around working in these other mediums and BACP has produced some good guidelines around adapting our practices during this time.

If you are looking for a supervisor who has experience of delivering supervision and working as an online or phone counsellor then I maybe a good fit for you. I have 8 years experience of working on live chat, webcam and phone for Relate and supervising the team of digital counsellors at Relate National.  As well as in my private practice.

If you are a Supervisee looking for a Supervisor then please check out my Supervisor profile and I would be more than happy to arrange an informal chat to see how I can help provide your supervision needs. You can also just call me on 07841 354305.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
