Jason Gillery MBACP~Supervisor / Psychosexual / Young People & Couple Therapist
Welcome to Yorkshire counselling services, I am a fully qualified therapist with 7 years experience working with a wide range of issues; whether it is sexual difficulties, relationship issues, family issues or how to manage your anxiety, depression, low self esteem, I can help you to get things back to how you would like them to be.
I offer a professional, discreet, confidential, friendly and relaxed Therapy and Counselling service in York in a comfortable environment operating from a central location in York with easy access and on street parking. My services cover Psychosexual (Sex) Therapy, Couple / Relationship Counselling, Individual and Young people Counselling. Please email, phone or visit the website for further details and an informal chat.
I believe that the therapeutic relationship between counsellor and client is all important and offer an empathic, warm, understanding, non-judgmental approach in a comfortable setting. I work in an integrative way meaning that I work with a range of different theories, in my experience what works for one person doesn't for another, after all we are all different, so it's working in a way which best suits you the client.
I hold Post graduate certificate in Psychosexual Therapy and the University Advanced Diploma in Couple Counselling obtained through the Relate Institute in Doncaster awarded through Hull University. I also gained certificates for working with Young people through Youth Access delivered through Relate. I hold an up to date enhanced DBS check (formely CRB) to work with young people and a safeguarding certificate awarded through Hull City Council. (See qualifications & training section for more information).
I trained and qualified as a Relationship Counsellor (Couple Counselling), a Young Person’s Counsellor (age 10+) and a Psychosexual Therapist with Relate Mid-Yorkshire. I have worked as a counsellor for Relate for 6½ years and work with individuals, couples and young people.
I currently work as an online counsellor with Relate head office delivering counselling support across the country to individuals covering a wide range of issues from relationship difficulties, parenting, anxiety, depression, self esteem and family difficulties. I am also still delivering face to face counselling at Relate Mid - Yorkshire twice a week, working with couples and individuals as a psychosexual therapist, couple and young people counsellor. I also work for the charity Survive in York as the male support co-ordinator providing support for adult survivors of sexual abuse. My work over the years with Relate has given me the opportunity to work on a variety of projects including iRelate, an online service to Young People and another online project working with Parents of troubled teenagers. I am also a trained trainer and have delivered training to parents through Relate.
Counselling offers you a safe, confidential place to talk about your life and anything that might be confusing, painful or uncomfortable. It also allows you to talk with someone who is trained to listen and to help make changes when things get difficult. Sometimes it is difficult to say what is on your mind to others around you and counselling support gives you the opportunity to talk in confidence to someone who is separate from your everyday life.
For young people counselling offers a safe environment to talk to a trusted adult who won’t judge them, and who isn’t their parent, as some things are difficult to talk to our parents about. They can discuss, amongst other things, their home life, issues with friends, school or even partners in the knowledge that it is safe to do so. I also work as trainer for Relate Mid-Yorkshire and have delivered training programmes for parents of teens and have a 17 year old daughter, so have a good understanding of the issues faced by young people and the concerns that parents may have to.
Sexual issues can be difficult to talk about and can have significant impacts on a relationship, Psychosexual Therapy (PST) can help to overcome such difficulties ranging from a low sexual desire to performance anxiety. PST can help overcome these issues and enhance people’s sex lives and for it to become part of a healthy relationship. Sexual issues can arise at anytime in life and can be for a range of reasons. I understand that there can be concerns about what coming to PST will involve,to reassure you, you would never be asked to do anything in the counselling room other than talk, the treatment plans are all individually tailored for the needs of the individual / couple using a range of theories including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy to achieve the goals set out by you the client. I work with individuals and couples.
I have regular supervision, both individually and as part of a group of qualified counsellors, working within the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists (BACP) guidelines for ongoing professional development. I am a general member of the College of Sexual and Relationship Therapists (COSRT) and a member of the British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP).
