About me
I believe that therapy gives us an unique personal wisdom which sustains us and helps us to choose better paths throughout life - in fact my favourite quote is "Knowledge comes, but wisdom lingers" (Tennyson).
I have 25 years experience of working for the NHS in the mental health field as a psychotherapist/counsellor and have Senior Accredited Status with the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy. In addition, I am also a Supervisor to other therapists and organisations, and an academic lecturer and supervisor to NHS counselling and psychotherapy students undertaking their Masters degrees.
My recent career has been in the NHS, where I published a book called "Looking After your Mental Health."
I trained in the psychodynamic model at Reading University, then the Integrative Approach at the Central School of Counselling and Psychotherapy in London. I then undertook an M.Sc., which included research on health psychology and I have presented papers to the Royal College of Science in London on patient motivation. I then followed this with an M.A. in Counselling and Psychotherapy.
My particular interest is working with relationship difficulties, anxiety and depression, and attachment issues. However, Janet believes that therapy is about helping people with unconscious underlying issues which is preventing them from enjoying life fully.

Senior Accredited Counsellor/Psychotherapist status with the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy.
Two Advanced Diplomas in Counselling and a Post Graduate Diploma.
M.A. (Masters Degree) in Psychotherapy and an M.Sc in Health Psychology.
Diploma in Supervision and supervises other therapists, and therapists in Organisations.
Lecturer at a University, and supervise M.A. Dissertations.
Published research on health behaviour and has presented papers to the Royal College of Science in London.
I have 18 years experience in the NHS where she worked in the Mental Health field.
I have designed and delivered courses to Companies and Organisations on Stress Management, Anger Management, Working with Groups, Group Psychology, Counselling patients with Alcohol and Drug Problems, as well as personal development courses.
I have received a Global Award 2017 for Reading and District, Psychodynamic Psychotherapy for Trauma and Recovery.
Member organisations
Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).
Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.
Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.
All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

The Practice is situated in a quiet area of Caversham Heights. There is a No. 22 Bus Service which is from the centre of Reading and runs every half hour. This bus stops 50 yards from the Practice.
