I am a integrative psychotherapist offering individual and couple therapy and individual or group supervision. We use the therapeutic relationship to work on what you bring and understand how it is for you to be you...and how this came about. As a therapist, my greatest strength is in working on qualities of relationship with the self, with others and with the world; so I am interested in you from every aspect: your history, beliefs, culture, identity, current situation and hopes for the future. My website gives more detail.
In my work with couples the focus is on what's wrong with the relationship, not what's wrong with you. The work is structured to facilitate effective communication. My aim is to provide a safe space for important conversations to understand what each of you experience in the relationship. Then we identify your habitual dynamics and patterns and get beyond the detail of your distress to your needs and desires. This way of working can revive and consolidate your bond and increase trust and intimacy between you.
As a supervisor for therapists, counsellors and related professions, I hold the overview of your professional context, your theoretical framework, your personal process, your practice and your self care. I provide a warmly challenging, ethical and supportive space in which you can develop as a practitioner and retain your autonomy and responsibility. I can also support the process of individual accreditation and further career development.
I have a particular interest in difference and belonging and have been privileged to have a richly diverse practice for many years.
My website supplies more detail...www.janetdowding.co.uk . It is in the process of updating (May 2017).
