I am a based in Hay on Wye. I work with adults and young people aged 14 and over. My experience supporting adults, children and families spans many years and settings, both in private practice and with the local authority. I am fully qualified and DBS approved.
Along with counselling, I promote mindfulness and relaxation.
I have a warm, comfortable room, which is private, to ensure confidentiality.
I am compassionate at all times. I listen and respond with respect. When you come for an initial appointment, we will talk about whatever is important to you, or worrying you. I will explain how the counselling works. No issue is too big or too small. I am not judgemental and I will be supportive. After this, you can decide whether you want to continue.
It's possible you feel anxious or sad. You might have a problem related to health, parenting, love, bereavement, work or your mood. Sometimes we do not know what is wrong but feel confused about something, feeling lonely or angry. It's possible you want to make lifestyle changes or plans.
I have experience with a very wide range of issues and age groups;
I have been a counsellor in a GP surgery, in schools and in private practice.
I have been a counsellor for the disabled children and young people's service.
I have been a family advisor for a national children's charity.
I have been a child/young people's advocate.
I am proud of my work and have regular supervision to maintain high standards. Please ring me for a chat or to make an appointment.
Training, qualifications & experience
I have worked extensively with adults, families and children for many years in various roles. I trained as a teacher after taking a degree in English. Later, I was a family support advisor for a well known national children's charity supporting families in crisis, as well as being an advocate for looked after children and young people and people with mental health problems.
I have a level four diploma in therapeutic counselling (Dip. Couns.) I am trained as an integrative therapist and I mainly use a person-centred approach.
I will always refer you to another counsellor or therapist if I can not offer what you need.
My therapeutic work with clients spans many years and settings including health care, schools and private practice. I have learned a lot working with people of all ages and developed my skill and expertise.
My Arts degree gave me a life long love of reading, writing and poetry. These things help me to explore my relationship to the world and to other people. I am happy to support clients to explore their feelings in this way, through books, poetry or writing, if they wish to.
