Dr Jane Simms Chartered Psychologist (CPsychol) HCPC AFBPsS
Hello and welcome to my profile. For many people talking to a qualified professional in a safe, trusting and confidential environment can be a daunting experience. You might feel that your difficulties are minimal, you might feel ashamed or embarrassed, unsure how to begin to find the words to talk or know what to say. These are perfectly normal reactions. However, no matter how overwhelming and despairing you are feeling right now, there is always hope and change is possible. Between us we will figure things out and work out the best way forward to help you start working through whatever is troubling you at this time.
All the psychological therapies that I provide are evidence based. That means you will only receive psychological intervention that has demonstrated under research conditions that it is effective and in many cases, recognised by the Department of Health National Institute of Clinical Excellence Guidelines (NICE). These include:
- Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT)
- Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT)
- Person Centred/Experiential Therapies (PCET)
- Other therapeutic approaches include:
- Schema Therapy
- Solution Focused Therapy
- Gestalt Therapy
However, no two people are the same and in many cases it is necessary to provide individually tailored therapy which draws upon a range of evidence based approaches designed to meet your unique psychological and emotional needs. This will be determined at your initial assessment from which an understanding of your difficulties will be ascertained and formulated into an appropriate treatment plan.
I understand that some people do not need or wish to engage in psychological therapy but instead require some practical skills to cope with low mood, stress or anxiety. I can provide information, advice and relaxation skills training on a one to one basis. In these one hour sessions you will learn more about stress, anxiety or how to manage your mood and how to cope.
I am located in Glengormley near to the M2, arterial roads and bus routes.
