Human Givens is the name given to a framework and approach for ‘people helping’ based on an understanding of what it is that enables us to survive and thrive as human beings. It is equally applicable to coaching, counselling, or therapy, and is a brief-intervention solution-focused approach which is based on findings from psychology and neurobiology about how people function, and on a body of research about which helping techniques are most effective. Typically people may attend for 2-4 sessions but sometimes only one is required and some people require longer periods of support.
Using the Human Givens approach I will provide support to help you create a life that works well for you. This could involve supporting you with your aspirations for the future, (for example in relation to your career, personal life, or health and wellbeing goals), and/or helping you find solutions to any emotional issues that may currently be holding you back (for example lack of confidence, anxiety, panic attacks, phobias, depression, psychological trauma, PTSD, addictions, stress, difficulties with relationships or life changes, including bereavement). If your life has become a little 'stuck' for whatever reason I can help you gain understanding, discover your own innate resources, find solutions, take control, set goals, and get your life moving forward again in as short a time as possible.
Training, qualifications & experience
My background includes more than 25 years in medical practice, and having worked as both a GP and in public health medicine I have a very broad experience of people and approaches to helping them, including non-Western medical models such as Chinese medicine. I am also an Institute of Training and Occupational Learning qualified coach and NLP master practitioner and have a lifelong involvement with community theatre, which has provided me with a useful toolkit for helping people develop confidence; e.g. with public speaking and interview technique.
I am a fully registered member of the Human Givens Institute whose register is accredited by the Professional Standards Authority for Health and Social Care in the UK.

I offer a special reduced cost of £60 per session, up to a maximum of 4 sessions, for clients formally referred to me by their NHS GP.
Please note that the average number of sessions required is 2-4. Some people require only one session and some people may require more than 4 depending on the nature of the issue. My aim is always to help you get your life moving in the direction you desire as swiftly as possible.
Please note that I am not offering medical services, but I am ideally placed to work with you alongside your medical or other healthcare practitioner if you are seeking support with the emotional component of a health condition using the Human Givens approach. My medical background gives me an in depth understanding of health challenges and enables me to support you towards your health and wellbeing goals.
