About me

I understand how the demands of daily life and major life events such as bereavement or divorce can leave us feeling overwhelmed, confused or even just sad. I am here to listen to you in confidence, about the things that matter to you. I appreciate that discussing personal problems can feel daunting and it can be difficult to know where to begin but I can promise you a safe place to express your feelings, listen to you without judgement and together we will explore and try to find answers to your worries and concerns.

To give an idea of how I work with clients, I am a person centred counsellor, which in brief means that I focus on my client as an individual, establishing your expectations and gaining an understanding of your difficulties through your experiences and feelings. Working together, we can explore these difficulties and where appropriate, I will draw on elements from various therapeutic methods and techniques beneficial to your progress.

Some clients are unable to describe how they feel or define the exact reasons why they have come for counselling. I have seen many clients who are uncertain where to start so while I have listed the areas of counselling I deal with, please only use this as a general guide and as a starting point.  Areas of particular interest to me are menopause and depression. Both can have such an impact on everyday life, relationships and career, whether it's you or someone you live with who is affected.

In my attempt to describe myself and how I work in these few words, I understand you may feel unsure or need to clarify any details so you are more than welcome to contact me without obligation, to help you decide whether I can be of assistance to you. In addition, if you are feeling apprehensive about attending counselling sessions then you are welcome to invite a friend or relative along for support during your initial consultation.

  • Please note I do not accept calls from withheld telephone numbers -  please leave a voicemail message with your name and contact details and I will return your call as soon as I am able.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
