About me

Life often presents difficult problems and changes that generate feelings of anxiety, depression and confusion.  Psychotherapy can help make sense of these changes, provide perspective and a basis for moving on.

I am an existential psychotherapist, with an integrative grounding in humanistic and psycho-dynamic psychotherapy. I have been practising for 10 years. As an existential psychotherapist, my approach is philosophically rather than theoretically based. Existential analysis is concerned with being human and all that this entails, especially how people approach the problems and situations that they encounter. I understand psychotherapy to be kind of clearing, a clearing in the sense of an open space for reflection, imagination and creativity, for thinking and feeling one's way through things, as well as clearing out old ways to make way for the new.

I work through a process of dialogue, by listening and questioning, in order to elicit a description of your experience.  Working toward a common understanding of your experience can help you listen more closely to yourself and come to terms with the problems you face. As part of this process, I will often suggest that you explore your embodied feelings, in order to facilitate a holistic approach to therapy.  I also employ dream exploration, active imagination and focusing where appropriate.

Training, qualifications & experience

My qualifications include a BA in Human Studies from Marylhurst University in the USA, an MA in Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy with an Advanced Diploma in Existential Psychotherapy from the School of Psychotherapy and Counselling Psychology, Regent’s College, London.

I am registered with the UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) and I am a member of the Society for Existential Analysis.

Organisations I have worked for:

Islington Community Alcohol Service

The Core Trust
The Dystonia Society

The UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) is a leading professional body for the education, training and regulation of psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors. Its register is accredited by the government's Professional Standards Authority.

As part of its commitment to protect the public, it works to improve access to psychotherapy, to support and disseminate research, to improve standards and to respond effectively to complaints against its members.

UKCP standards cover the range of different psychotherapies. Registration is obtained by training or accrediting with one of its member organisations, or by holding a European Certificate in Psychotherapy. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.
