About me

I am an experienced and very approachable psychotherapist working 5 days a week from a consulting room  situated in leafy Notting Hill, just a short 10 mins walk Notting Hill Gate tube .My website is psychotherapynow.co.uk .I work privately with individual and couples and i specialise in working with relationship issues . Whether it is loss, an addiction, anger and frustration or depression, talking to a counsellor or psychotherapist in a non-judgemental atmosphere is a valuable way to begin to gain some perspective and begin to think about your choices. I specialise in improving family relations especially where there are children involved. I also have considerable experience of working with sexual and identity issues.
I have also been Individual Clinical Supervisor for a number of individuals on training courses, ranging from humanistic through psychodynamic perspectives to psychoanalytic clinical supervision.I have a particular interest in therapy with high level sports people and in ways of bringing clinical insight to bear upon sporting performance. I also work sometimes as a consultant to business, particularly to individuals in highly stressful situations.
I work regularly with couples and have considerable experience in helping people work their way out of the kind of repetitive patterns couples often find themselves in. In my experience couples therapy can be highly transformative and can open the way to better relationship possibilities relatively quickly. I often see people in crisis situations and I am good at finding a way through the swamplands to a better place when previously all might have seemed impossible.I work well in deep water with complex issues. The darkest hour is often just before dawn,I believe that people are capable of all manner of personal transformations if they want it enough and they are prepared to work hard enough to achieve it. Everything is available to everyone as RD Laing once said.

Further information

I have a particular interest in working with addictions, intoxication, excessive appetites.Often when underlying issues are explored and worked with all sorts of things can change , ie a problem at one stage of ones life might not be at all an issue further down the road.I have a particular interest in sexual addiction and relationship work, especially with couples, many of whom get very stuck in repeating cycles of behaviour that can be particularly limiting and prevents them from having a good time. I am very interested in psychoanalytic responses to addictive behaviour, in alternatives to 12 step programmes.
A couple of quotes:

"A psychoanalysis, consists in speaking freely, in not hushing the ideas that go through your head, like we’re doing right now. Little by little, from within your own words, another meaning forms and surprises you, then falls apart, taking the pain with it. Usually, you discover just how conditioned you had been by apparently minute elements encountered in hazardous circumstances: things from childhood, meetings, certain words said to you, and we keep coming back to them until the malevolent charge of these elements softens. Each case is different.” (Jacques-Alain Miller, ‘Response to the Anti-Freudians’, Le Point, 22.09.05.)

Michel Foucault said " I dream of the intellectual destroyer of evidence and universalities, the one who in the inertias and constraints of the present, locates and marks the weak points, the openings, the lines of force, who incessantly displaces himself, doesnt know exactly where he is heading nor what he will think tomorrow because he is too attentive to the present......"
