About me

Hello and welcome to my page.

My approach to counselling is gentle and considered and I am respectful no matter what clients may bring. I aim to create a confidential space where anything may be said and what needs to be shared can be, for there is enormous power in expressing what has been confused or shut down. The counselling relationship is central to my work. Each client is different and what happens in each session is co-created between us. We might touch on some of the following areas:

  • Events in your past and the sense you have made of them.
  • The story of your childhood and the way you were brought up.
  • Your current ways of relating and what these may mean.
  • Your internal world and how you feel inside.
  • Dreams and fantasies.

I bring a warmth and common sense to my work. I like to work mindfully and remain anchored in the here and now.

I work in Patcham, Brighton.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Further information

Therapies Offered.
I offer Psychodynamic Counselling. Psychodynamic is made up of two words; psyche, our inner world and dynamic which refers to movement. It emphasises looking at the psychological forces beneath the surface that effect our feelings and behaviour, becoming aware of them, thus allowing change.

Type of Client.
I work with adults and young people and trainees.

Practical Details.
I work in Patcham, Brighton, and online (using FaceTime or Skype) and I offer telephone counselling. It is possible to work with a mixture of these. If you are not sure then we can be in contact to discuss this further.

Session are usually weekly, either open-ended or time limited (say six or twelve sessions.)

We arrange an initial meeting to meet and get a picture of what is going on for you, and to decide whether we can work well together. There is no obligation to continue. In this session I will explain a little about how I work and there is opportunity for you to ask any questions you may have. I aim to give you a sense of what I feel your presenting issues are about.
