Jacqui Empson-High, Counsellor and Supervisor
Hello, my name is Jacqui and I am an experienced Person-Centred counsellor offering general counselling and with particular interest and experience in bereavement and losses of all kinds including bereavement by suicide, sudden trauma and loss of a companion animal/pet.
I come from a nursing background and work with any health related issues but cancer and end of life care are areas I particularly like to work with.
Loss can include redundancy, miscarriage, abortion and anything that leaves a sense of emptiness that is hard to explain or cope with.
I also have an interest in working creatively within the Person-Centred approach.
I offer counselling to individual adults at my home in Wymondham and at a clinic in central Norwich if this is easier. I can accommodate home visits in the area if required and can offer counselling support to clients and their families/carers if requested and agreed.
I can now offer one-to-one face-to-face session via secure and confidential video link using VSee for those unable to leave home or with transport issues or wish to work with me on a specific issue countrywide. If you are interested please contact me for further details.
I offer supervision to other therapists either face to face or via the VSee video platform and work from a Person-Centred approach offering supervisees an empathic, understanding and congruent relationship for them to explore their client work.
I am also a poet and offer writing for wellbeing to individuals, groups and other therapists. This can be as a dedicated session or series of workshops or incorporated into a counselling session on request. I also offer writing for wellbeing workshops as CPD for therapists.
I would enjoy the opportunity to talk with you to see if we can work together to help you find your way through your problems.
Training, qualifications & experience
I qualified as a nurse in 1979 but left that profession in the 1980's having specialised for many years in cancer nursing and end of life care. This experience enables me to work effectively with cancer patients, families and friends from pre-diagnosis to end of life and beyond for the family. I found myself using counselling skills a great deal in this situation.
I obtained the Post-Graduate Diploma in Counselling at the University of East Anglia in 2000. I had previously been trained by Cruse Bereavement Care in 1997 and volunteered as a counsellor with them for 10 years. I offered In-service training and assisted with the initial training course from 2002 - 2006.
In 2016 I undertook a training course in and obtained a BACP Endorsed Certificate in Clinical Supervision .
I have also undertaken university studies in History of Art obtaining a BA(Hons) in the subject in 1990 fuelling my interest in creative therapy. I took a weekend course with Natalie Rogers, creator of Person-Centred Expressive Therapy in 2003 and have incorporated these ideas into my work.
My interest in the therapeutic benefits of creative working, particularly writing, has been with me since my teenage years and in 2013 I went to Ty Newydd in Wales to undertake a Writing in Health and Social Care course to consolidate my work as a poet, using writing as therapy and increase my understanding of this growing field and the research evidence for its effectiveness in maintaining wellbeing.
