About me

Welcome to my profile. You have made the biggest step in starting your search for the right counsellor for you. I can offer sessions face to face or remote (telephone or video counselling). Whatever suits you. I can also offer a free 15 minute introductory call if required.

Are there times when you feel lost, frustrated, confused or stressed in your life? Do you feel that no one is truly listening to you? Do you have relationship or marriage difficulties? If so, I can help you identify where you want to be, what needs to change and how best to get there. I can work with you as an individual or a couple.

Counselling can empower and enable you to find your potential and to overcome whatever obstacles are holding you back or making you feel stuck.

I am a Humanistic counsellor, mainly using the Person Centred approach, which in lay terms means that I am led by you. I use a variety of techniques, to work with your experiences to enable you and I to work together to find which is the most appropriate method for you. After all, what may work for one person may not work with another. We are all different. I will help you explore and regain your own strengths, which we lose in times of anxiety or depression. Therapy does not always have to be serious, we can have fun on the way. As they say - laughter is the best medicine!

For sixteen years I worked in the voluntary sector, supporting people who had been raped, sexually abused (as an adult or a child), in domestic abusive relationships or those who had been bereaved through murder or manslaughter.

I have worked for the NHS Talking Therapies / IAPT (Improved Access to Psychological Therapies) service where I counselled clients with an array of issues including depression, anxiety, bereavement, work stresses or even helping with managing and accepting long term conditions or illnesses.

People have amazing strengths. They can come through and deal with the most difficult of situations. Together we can find your strengths.

I am a fully insured BACP Accredited Counsellor / Psychotherapist and an Accredited IPT (Interpersonal Therapy) Practioner. My qualifications include an Advanced Diploma in Counselling; Certificate in Youth Counselling and BACP Modality, Counselling for Depression. I hold an Enchanced DBS certificate and am registered with ICO (Information Commisioners Office / Data Protection). I have completed (and continue to attend) various training events which have enhanced, expanded my knowledge and continued my Professional Development and experience (see my website for full details)

Registered / Accredited

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Other areas of counselling I deal with

I also specialise in Rape / Sexual Violence and Childhood Sexual Abuse. Did you know 1 in 4 children have been sexually abused by the time they reach 18 years of age and 1 in 6 before they reach the age of 16. Childhood sexual abuse happens and it is never the fault of the child.

People who have suffered trauma can often have complex needs they may suffer from dissociation or Dissociative Identity Disorder. I have experience in dealing with and more importantly understand these complexities.

If you have been affected by Sexual Abuse, Rape or Trauma and would like to talk to a professional in confidence who will understand and not judge, please call me.
