Profile
I am a fully qualified professional practitioner offering open-ended psychotherapy which is generally long-term. I work in a relational way, focusing on establishing a sense of trust in a safe therapeutic environment. I believe strongly in confidentiality and a non-judgmental approach to psychotherapy. I will enable you to explore and work through difficult thoughts and feelings and to gain greater insight into the way in which such thoughts and feelings impact on your life - in terms of intimate relationships, work life, or social life.
It is hoped that with such insights and a deeper exploration of self you can begin to live more deliberately and with greater meaning.
Many clients present with a range of problems of which they require help to explore. Such themes are:
anger management, low self-esteem, bereavement, lack of confidence, anxiety, panic attacks and phobias, depression, low mood, addictions, compulsive behavior, trauma, and recovery from trauma, self-destructive behaviors, self harming or suicidal thoughts, difficulties in making, sustaining or ending relationships, struggling with loss, including bereavement and divorce, difficulty in expressing feelings, difficulty managing anger or other emotions, feeling lonely, feelings of alienation, sexual problems, discomfort with identity or sexuality, issues relating to abuse or unhappiness in childhood, eating disorders, work-related issues, including stress and redundancy, wanting to understand yourself better and a deeper exploration of self.
Training, Qualifications & Experience
I trained as an Existential Psychotherapist and was attracted to the approach due to the relational aspect, the focus on the individual, and the individual's potential for change.
I have extensive experience working with trauma, either with adults who have suffered a traumatic event, or adults who experienced traumatic events in childhood. Such early childhood traumatic experience can have lasting effects on the mind and body and require a gentle-yet skilled approach in psychotherapy.
I have carried out research into panic disorder and how people can better understand panic and anxiety and learn to manage the symptoms.
I trained at the New School of Psychotherapy, graduating with a Masters degree in Existential Psychotherapy and Counselling.
