Profile
Do you want to take steps to change your life, to make your life happier, to find solutions for your problems?
Change is both exciting but frightening at the same time for everyone, but therapy makes it easy to solve problems and make that change. Everyone has difficult times in their lives and we could all do with some help sometimes. Everyone has the power to change their lives for the better, once they know how to!
Talking through your concerns with family and friends can be useful, but talking with a counsellor/psychotherapist who is skilled and professionally trained, will help you to see things from a different perspective. It will help you to explore and clarify your thoughts and feelings in greater depth. You will find and develop your strengths which will improve your quality of life.
This is your opportunity to talk freely, openly and in confidence to a neutral person who is trained to listen and who is not judgemental. You will get support and understanding.
During my 30's I made some important life choices and as a result I went to university as a mature student and studied Psychology. Fast forward and for 20 years I have worked in both schools and FE as a Psychology teacher, mainly with sixth form students and mature students in lifelong learning.
Building on my knowledge of Psychology, I then qualified to practice Psychotherapy and Hypnotherapy, and have since been building up a private therapy practice.
Services offered are:
- psychotherapy/counselling
- hypnotherapy
- life coaching
- email counselling.
Training, Qualifications & Experience
I studied for a degree in Psychology as a mature student. As a teacher I came across many students who had problems in their lives. I wanted to help but because I wasn't qualified, I couldn't. So I spent 3 years training for a Diploma in Hypnotherapy and and Advanced Diploma in Psychotherapy,
I now have my own private practice helping to support people with relationship problems, confidence problems, anxiety, feelings of worthlessness, anger, grief, weight issues, physical, emotional or sexual abuse, alcohol, gambling, drugs or self-harm problems as a way of coping.
I belong to the Counselling Society and the Hypnotherapy Society. I work to the BACP's code of ethics and have a current advanced CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) discloser.

Further Information
Psychotherapy and Counselling have been called the talking cure, but with a skilled and professionally trained therapist.
There are many different types of psychotherapy and counselling each with different theories about human nature, what causes difficulties and how change occurs. The therapy helps you to clear your mind of muddled thoughts and the feelings that are associated with those thoughts.
Every type of psychotherapy or counselling will take place in a safe and strictly confidential environment to help encourage the positive changes you want but allowing you to express your thoughts, feelings and anxieties. I may not have experienced what you have been through or are going through, but I can offer unconditional acceptance, empathy and honesty.
As an 'integrative' psychotherapist, I counsel from various approaches:
I use Cognitive Behavioural Therapy which looks at how your problem or issue has perpetuated, where it has come from, your thoughts, feelings and behaviours.
Also used is Person Centred Counselling, which reflects, summarises and clarifies what you tell me, because you know what is best for you.
Psychoanalytic psychotherapy is based on the idea that we are shaped by our early experiences and relationships; patterns may have been repeated and together we can try to understand your difficulties and what may be being repeated in your current life and relationships.
Transactional Analysis helps to gain insight into how you communicate with others.
- Online, email or telephone counselling available
