About me

I am a BACP accredited, experienced integrative counsellor offering weekly one-to-one counselling sessions. My style is empathic and sensitive, responsive to what each person brings to the session. It could be a particular problem such as anxiety or depression, or you could be looking for help with a more vague sense of something being wrong.

The integrative nature of my training allows me to choose methods that would be most helpful for you. I blend together humanistic and psychodynamic approaches; use metaphor, image and dreamwork; elements of CBT and mindfulness. The sessions can be supportive, exploratory, or very practical - equipping you with tools that you can use outside of the session.

How does it work?

In my experience, most of our problems in living are in one way or another caused by how we relate to ourselves and to the world around us and how connected we feel with it. When connected, we feel more grounded and safe in the world, knowing our place in it and trusting the flow of life. It is the antidote to anxiety and depression that is so common in these uncertain times. I recognise climate anxiety as a natural response to an unprecedented situation and work with people who seek to understand what is their unique contribution to the world in crisis.

Together we can look at your present and past experiences and also at what is happening between us to gain a fresh and tangible insight into what life feels like for you. We would use this information to trace the patterns in your life so that you can see them clearly, come to deeper understanding of what's happening and from that place make informed choices about your actions. While understanding is important, it doesn't help in itself. It is when it comes with acceptance and compassion, that positive change happens. In our work I would aim for us to stay with experience using breath and mindfulness trusting that our emotions are not a problem to be fixed, but a doorway to where we need to go to achieve healing.

I would like to help you to not only find unique solutions to your difficulties, but to support you towards feeling more fully alive, centred and empowered.

I see our work as a collaborative and creative process with the quality of our relationship at it's heart.

In addition to my private practice, I have several years of experience working with a wide range of issues in both long-term and time limited therapy. My background is in teaching, working with children with special educational needs and also in holistic complementary therapies.

Member organisations

Registered / Accredited

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
