About me

I am a Chartered Counselling Psychologist, with experience of working both within the NHS and a third sector organisation which offers support to those affected by cancer. I believe that therapy works best when it is a collaborative undertaking, and so I will work with you in a way suited to you and your therapeutic needs.

I have experience of working with many mental health issues, including anxiety, depression, panic, low self-confidence and self-esteem issues, phobias, suicidality, personality disorders, abuse, relationship issues, and work stress, amongst others. I have a special interest in working with those affected by chronic and terminal illnesses, including those with the illness, their carers, family members and friends. I also have an interest in working with all types of bereavement, including bereavement due to stillbirth and neonatal death, and due to suicide.

I believe that mental wellness is important, so I offer stress and anxiety management, and relaxation.

I offer individual and group therapy and will work with families.

You can contact me by phone or email using the details here or by pressing the link buttons on my website. If you are unsure about whether counselling is for you, or if you have any questions, I would be happy to have a short chat with you, or arrange an introductory 30 minute session, with no obligation to arrange a further appointment. I understand that taking the first step can be difficult, so I will try to make it as easy for you as possible.

I offer supervision for health care professionals.

Training, qualifications & experience

M.A. (Hons), MSc Psychological Studies, DPsych Counselling Psychology

I have a Masters Degree from Glasgow University in Psychological Studies and a Doctorate in Counselling Psychology for Glasgow Caledonian University. I also have an M.A.(Hons) in English from Aberdeen University.

Before retraining in psychology, I taught English, working with children and adolescents outside mainstream education, and with educational needs. I have experience of working within a Community Mental Health Team (CMHT), dealing with a wide range of mental health issues, and for a third sector organisation offering support to those affected by cancer. I have undertaken research into aspects of bereavement by stillbirth and neonatal death.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

HCPC
Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)

The HCPC are an independent, UK-wide health regulator. They set standards of professional training, performance and conduct for 16 professions.

They keep a register of health professionals who meet their standards, and they take action if registered health professionals fall below those standards. They were created by a piece of legislation called the Health Professions Order 2001.

Registration means that a health professional meets national standards for their professional training, performance and conduct.
