About me

I am a qualified integrative counsellor and psychotherapist, and my professional focus is working with individuals, couples and families wishing to explore therapy as a tool for healing.

I specialise in restoring balance to those experiencing anxiety, depression, Seasonal Affective Disorder, relationship and family issues, bereavement, identity issues, and abuse (recent and historic). Multilingual and having lived in many diverse cultures, I work closely with the issues of cultural adjustment and adaptation, as well as issues related to expatriation and immigration

The environment I offer is calm and purposeful, non-judgemental and confidential thereby facilitating the key steps in empowering clients to manage their feelings and emotions and to bring about positive changes. At the centre of my integrative approach is the therapist-client relationship dynamic where I can identify bespoke and workable strategies for you that are drawn from my knowledge of, and experience in, diverse theoretical approaches. I aim to get clients to use their own resources to make sure they are able to find the strength and confidence to work through their own issues and make the changes they want to see in their own lives.

Counselling can help bring clarity where there is confusion, resolve past issues, change behaviours and improve relationships. I work particularly effectively with Couples Counselling, providing you and your partner with a safe and empathic space to assist you in exploring the difficult issues you're facing in your relationship, whatever your age, gender or sexual orientation. This includes individually-tailored sessions, regular relationship maintenance  and relationship improvement sessions.

Approximately half of all my therapy sessions are spent counselling teens and younger children. For me this is an extremely rewarding part of my work where fast change can and does happen in issues such as self-harm, bullying, depression and bereavement.

I am also a supervisor, and offer supervision for both trainees and qualified counsellors.

I hold Enhanced DBS Clearance, am fully insured and work in a quiet and private setting in the St Albans area with off-street parking. I usually see clients in my own private practice, but may consider seeing clients in their own home. In addition, I offer Skype online counselling which easily accommodates the client-therapist dynamic.

As per BACP requirements, I attend regular supervision helping me to support my work, as well as undertaking regular Continuous Personal Development training.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Wheelchair user access

Wheelchair-accessible premises should have step-free access for wheelchair users and individuals who are unable to climb stairs. If a Counsellor's premises aren't step-free, they may offer alternative services such as telephone/web-based appointments, home visits, or meeting clients in different location, so you can choose the option that suits you best.

You can contact the Counsellor to discuss the options available.

Under the Equality Act 2010 service providers have a duty to make reasonable adjustments to ensure that individuals with disabilities can access their service. You can read more about reasonable adjustments to help you to access services on the CAB website.
