My name is Ian and I have been running a personal counselling service since 2001. I work primarily as a Person Centred Therapist. I undertook counselling myself in years gone by and believe that having a warm and confidential relationship with a professional counsellor, where many issues can be discussed, helped in working through my concerns and enabled me to positively move forward with life.
Daily life can become more and more difficult when we are suffering from stress, anxiety or change in our mood. I wish to help people understand these feelings, work them through and move on to better things.
I may use a variety of counselling approaches with clients, including CBT. We will discuss the options and decide what is appropriate so that we can work in a way that is relaxing, suitable and offers the most benefit.
How Counselling can help
Counselling is a therapy that helps the client to better understand their thoughts, feeelings and behaviours-in short-themselves. It helps people resolve issues that are concerning them, offerring an opportunity to look at problems that need addressing. All sessions are strictly confidential and counsellors work to a code of ethics, in my case to the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists.
I have had experience in the Health,Education, Industrial and Business sectors helping people with common difficulties such as Anxiety,Anger,Depression, work and personal Stress, and Relationship issues. I see clients coping with personal issues in the work place,as well as people affected by Bereavement, Chronic illness, and Caring concerns.. .
I run face to face sessions lasting for between fifty minutes to one hour. These take place at either of the private addresses shown above. After an initial discussion it could be that a couple of sessions would help, brief therapy of up to six session would be useful or working over a longer period may be appropriate. Some times the client may keep a diary over a period between meetings so that any issues that arise can be discussed during the actual session.
Telephone, email and skype video counselling can also be arranged.
Training, qualifications & experience
I am an accredited member of BACP and a UKRCP registered counsellor. I have also undertaken programmes in bereavement therapy, alcohol and substance abuse.
My experience as a counsellor has covered a range of client concerns: Abuse, anxiety, depression, stress, trauma, self confidence, low self image, phobias, self esteem, alcohol/substance abuse and work related issues.
In terms of the age of my clients, they range from those in their teens to any older age group, in fact to any one who feels that they may benefit from "talking therapy".
