Howard Davis MBACP (Accred). Mindfulness-based Counselling
2-8 Victoria Avenue
Welcome. My name is Howard, I'm a mindfulness-based gestalt counsellor and offer quality, affordable, indoor and outdoor counselling in Peckham (SE15, SE21, SE22) in south London and Bishopsgate (EC2, E1) in central London. I invite you to have a read through of my counselling profile and see whether I am the kind of counsellor you wish to work with.
How I work
For each of us, there are times when we feel stuck, depressed, lost, hopeless and anxious. Perhaps we've gone through or in the midst of a major life transition - a change of career, the breakup of a relationship, the death of a friend or family member, or a disturbing health diagnosis. Or perhaps we're exhausted, confused, or unsure of what is truly being asked of us. We sense the potential to feel more connected, more alive, and more intimately engaged with ourselves, others, and what is possible; we know we have something to offer to this world, but we can't quite access it.
As your counsellor, I will work in relationship with you in a gentle way to build the support and mindful techniques that will allow you to more subtley and skillfully be with the pain, suffering, vulnerability, fear, anxiety, stress and worry that life brings. I offer an attuned, empathic holding environment, a healing place where together we can unfold, illuminate and transform your felt experience. Working relationally to bring about an increased resonance with present moment experience, I seek to offer an enhanced sense of belonging and a greater self-aware choosing of our actions and attitude.
What to Expect
The method of counselling I practice is integrative and centred upon mindful awareness. The process of self-awareness is akin to taking a step back from the story of ourselves, thereby allowing observation of our, often habitual, actions and behaviours. With greater self-awareness there also arises a compassion towards parts of ourselves we usually resist and push away. This mindful ability to hear and befriend yourself can lead to a greater sense of equanimity and acceptance.
I offer myself as a counsellor to you, especially if you
- want to explore and clarify specific personal problems
- are experiencing a life crisis
- are interested in personal development and growth
- are suffering from chronic emotional problems
My Counselling Room
My indoor counselling practice is available at 2 locations; a bright, calm therapy room in Peckham (SE15) easily accessible from both East Dulwich and Peckham Rye stations and a contemporary therapy room at Bishopsgate in the City of London (EC2). Please see my website for full details.
My outdoor practice is held in Dulwich and Sydenham Woods. Taking counselling outdoors can have a restorative effect on both our physical and mental health. My interest in outdoor therapy began 20 years ago in the vast cloud forests of Colombia where I worked as a volunteer at an ecological commune run by an intrepid group of primal scream therapists. Having travelled widely, I had already spent a few years living in nature on the Greek island of Crete. As a Londoner, I grew to appreciate the simple, yet whole, lifestyles of those I met and began to be aware of the therapeutic benefits I was receiving. There is no fitness requirement needed to benefit from outdoor counselling.
I offer an introductory session where we can both decide whether we would like to work together with no obligation if you do not wish to continue. I am also available for remote sessions via Skype. Please send me an email or text/ring if you would like to find out more.
