About us

Hillfields Young Mothers Group is a charity that supports young mothers aged 16 to 25. The charity as a whole provides a women's group, informal educational opportunities, support as well as a one to one therapeutic counselling service.

The counselling service welcomes anyone who has experienced parenting at an early age (under 25) no matter what your current age. We also welcome adults whose parents were young at the time of their birth or parents whose children became young parents themselves.

The therapists at Hillfields Young Mothers Group work in a Person Centred Integrative way. This means that we don’t have a “one size fits all” approach when working with people, but that they look for the approach that best fits with you as a person and will best meet your needs.

Sometimes it is easier to express our feelings in non verbal ways. Using paint, clay, writing, poetry or drawing, can provide a medium with which to express those difficult thoughts and feelings. We can support you to find creative ways to express yourself if you find that this might be helpful.

Where do we start?

Each of us is unique with our own needs and goals. When considering counselling we believe it is important to find a counsellor with whom you can connect and feel comfortable. We would suggest that you contact several therapists before you make your final decision, talk to them about the way they work to see if it is the right ‘fit’ for you. We offer a lower cost introductory session so that you can discuss your needs and decide whether we want to work together.

How long will it take to see some changes?
Sometimes changes can happen quite quickly, other times they are more gradual. We will work at your own pace and therapy will be tailored to meet your individual needs. You choose how long counselling continues for and the duration is entirely dependant on your needs.

What can you expect from therapy?
We offer an opportunity for you to be heard with respect and understanding to work through issues that feel hard to handle on your own. We will work together to help you to find your own solution. The sessions last for one hour and are usually on a weekly basis though sometimes this is negotiable.

The therapists are all members of the British Association for Counsellors and Psychotherapists (BACP)
