About me

I offer individual psychotherapy in comfortable surroundings for those who are in crisis or looking to explore who they are and/or who they want to be.

I practice in an existential way predominantly, which looks at the meaning that people give to the various facets of their lives. Issues such as authenticity, freedom, responsibility, choice, and interacting with others often surface, as well as any anxieties a client may be experiencing. Patterns of behaviour are also explored, so that clients can find a way of being that works better for them.

Depending on the circumstances, I also draw from my experience in psychoanalytic, person centred, CBT and trauma work (Narrative exposure therapy and CBT for trauma).

What to Expect

Therapy sessions last 50 minutes and within this time the client decides what to discuss. My role is to guide this discussion, and create an environment that enables the client to trust the process and speak openly about issues.

Perinatal Specialisation

Although I see adults with a range of issues, I also have a clinic at Dulwich Therapy Rooms specialising in mothers and mothers to be. Therapy sessions here are provided to help women to prepare for or adapt to their new situation and to deal with a new set of responsibilities and roles. I work specifically with prenatal and postnatal depression and anxiety as well as birth trauma.

Training, qualifications & experience

I hold a doctorate in counselling psychology, with chartered psychologist status with the British Psychological Society, and registration with the Health and Care Professions Council.

Apart from my private practice work, I have also worked in the NHS in an IAPT (primary care psychotherapy) service, seeing a diverse range of clients, as well as conducting general and PTSD assessments. Whilst in training, I had a number of placements within the NHS, including within a perinatal service, and in a project for people with schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. I also had a placement in a charity for women suffering from domestic abuse. I have been seeing clients with a range of issues in my private practice for the last ten years.

I am also a qualified supervisor having taken the BPS Supervision Skills Course.

HCPC
Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)

The HCPC are an independent, UK-wide health regulator. They set standards of professional training, performance and conduct for 16 professions.

They keep a register of health professionals who meet their standards, and they take action if registered health professionals fall below those standards. They were created by a piece of legislation called the Health Professions Order 2001.

Wheelchair-accessible premises should have step-free access for wheelchair users and individuals who are unable to climb stairs. If a Counsellor's premises aren't step-free, they may offer alternative services such as telephone/web-based appointments, home visits, or meeting clients in different location, so you can choose the option that suits you best.

You can contact the Counsellor to discuss the options available.

Under the Equality Act 2010 service providers have a duty to make reasonable adjustments to ensure that individuals with disabilities can access their service. You can read more about reasonable adjustments to help you to access services on the CAB website.
