About me

I am an experienced counsellor and I work with my clients in a person centred way, always working with what you choose to bring and working at your pace.  I am an EMDR therapist which enables me to work with clients who have suffered trauma.

For many years I worked as a nurse specialising in all aspects of fertility, including counselling before and after an abortion, I then went on to be a counsellor in an IVF unit. For many years I also worked in the charitable sector developing a huge range of experience in all areas of individual counselling. My next place of work was the Scottish Association of Mental Health. Here I worked with everything the General Practitioners referred to us. At the same time I spent many years working with drug and alcohol addiction and all the challenges that this can bring to family members.

I have an interest in working with people who have experienced abuse of any sort whether recent or in childhood, and helping them to claim their lives back as their own. Sometimes people just feel that they need a listening ear because circumstances in their lives have got out of hand, work can be emotionally challenging, and the busy lives we all lead in today's society and the problems that this can bring, such as relationship issues, depression, anxiety or bereavement may all make you feel you may benefit from counselling. When appropriate I can use EMDR to help people cope with past trauma of all sorts. This therapy is recognised by the medical profession as one of the best ways of working with trauma.

I work from my own home in Linlithgow, in a purpose built counselling room which has its own entrance and wheelchair access. It is a comfortable, calming and welcoming space designed to make your counselling experience as relaxed as possible.

I appreciate that coming to a counsellor is a very hard step to take, but hopefully with my support you can find a way through your difficulties and you can discover that life can still be full of promise and interest beyond the challenging place you are presently in.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
