My name is Helen Rutherford and I became a qualified person-centred counsellor in 2008. I am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (No.065042). I have spent several years studying and working in various settings as a counsellor gaining new skills.
I offer a free introductory 50-minute consultation so you have the opportunity to ask me any questions before starting counselling. It is important that you feel comfortable working with me so I provide this opportunity to meet with me before committing to counselling.
Whatever you bring to your counselling session I will endeavour to help you through those difficult days. Exploring thoughts and feelings takes courage. It can be scary for individuals to seek support when they need it the most. Counselling offers individuals a place to feel fully accepted and supported in a non-judgemental environment. Thoughts and feelings directly impact on your mood and ability to cope, therefore talking through these issues can help you to deal with your distress and encourage positive change.
I work with a wide range of issues and provide a warm, safe and confidential space where you can talk in confidence. For example, I work with issues such as loss, anxiety, low self-esteem, assertiveness, empowerment, coping strategies, depression, isolation, diagnosis, negative thoughts, anger, worry, hopelessness, oppression, progressive illness, sexual abuse, psychological abuse, guilt, independence, transition, stress and relationship issues. I offer an integrative approach to best suit your needs.
I have a special interest in disability and illness related issues and have undergone further training in this area. I am passionate about the promotion of psychological services for all.
I offer counselling in a range of mediums to offer flexibility in accessing my service.
