About me

I am a BACP registered Counsellor and Psychotherapist and follow their professional and ethical codes.

I am experienced at providing long term and short term therapy to individuals. Short term contracts are good for focused work on a particular issue. Longer term work is more appropriate for complex problems, with the aim of enabling you to enhance your life and to live it more fully.

My approach

I trained as a relational integrative psychotherapist. This means that I have knowledge of a number of therapeutic approaches. I work collaboratively with you, tailoring my approach to suit your particular requirements. I draw mainly from humanistic philosophy, attachment theory, and cognitive and mindfulness techniques. I aim to form trusting working relationships with a warm and open approach to therapy.

Emotional distress can be triggered by life events, relationships, or by past difficulties resurfacing. I aim to create a thoughtful, non-judgmental environment in which to safely examine issues at your own pace. That said, I think it’s important to maintain a sense of dynamic progression and I will gently utilise skills to prevent the work from getting stuck.

Therapy aims to explore current difficulties within the context of existing and past relationships and experiences. It offers an uncomplicated and confidential place to talk, and also provides an opportunity to create lasting change. Many of us hold on to ways of coping with stressful situations that were developed in childhood, and might be outmoded or unhelpful. Careful listening and reflection can help to uncover unhelpful coping strategies and to open the possibility of developing different ways of responding to situations.

Who benefits from therapy?

People from all walks of life, ages, social and ethnic backgrounds come for counselling and psychotherapy. People often come at times of transition; between jobs, after a bereavement or a relationship breakdown, or because the cannot find the way out of a mood of anxiety or depression.
