Profile
Registered with the UK Council for Psychotherapy, I am a psychotherapist who has worked as a counsellor in the NHS, voluntary sector and private practice. I aim to help you explore and reach a way forward with the issues you bring, in a non-judgmental and confidential setting.
I use an integrative model developed through six years’ post-graduate training in the three major approaches in psychology: behavioural, psychodynamic and humanistic.
This means I use a wide range of techniques (including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy - CBT), based around the relationship between therapist and client, which I adapt based on what you present as your aims in coming to therapy. I work with clients on an ongoing or short term basis (minimum six weeks).
My areas of specialism include:
- Anger management
- Relationship issues
- Emotional issues around visual impairment
- Bereavement and loss
- Anxiety
- Depression
- Work-related stress
- Low self-confidence
I have experience working in both the NHS (as a counsellor in a large GP practice offering CBT) and in the third sector as a volunteer counsellor for a Hampshire based counselling charity, and previously as a telephone counsellor for Childline.
First meeting and treatment schedule:
At the first meeting I will ask some basic questions about you and, importantly what you are hoping to gain from coming to therapy. This initial session, like all subsequent sessions, is 50 minutes long.
It is also an opportunity for me to answer any questions you may have about the process of therapy, and for you to find out whether this feels a safe and comfortable space to work together.
Assuming we decide to work together at that first meeting, we will then make a contract for a certain time period, e.g. six sessions, before reviewing our work against the aims set at the beginning.
Confidentiality remains paramount throughout the therapy process.
Training, Qualifications & Experience
I am a UKCP (United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy www.psychotherapy.org.uk) registered integrative psychotherapist.
My training is through the integrative psychotherapy and counselling psychology doctoral course, a joint programme at Metanoia Institute (www.metanoia.ac.uk) and Middlesex University (www.mdx.ac.uk). In 2012 I will complete the doctoral research element of the course, and become a chartered counselling psychologist.
