Helen Hickson-Booth Dip Couns, Registered Member MBACP, Therapeutic Counselling
Prior to my career as a counsellor and psychotherapist I spent 20 years’ working within both health, education and social services both as a support and advocacy employee working within the community in both school, home and private settings. Supporting both adults, family and young people both within families and singularly in the areas of addiction, pregnancy, nurturing family development and behavioral issues.
These experiences have encouraged and inspired me and through this I made the decision to further develop my skill set, enhancing how I worked and what I could offer both personally and professionally to my clients. This change of direction began my journey to be a holistic, diverse and creative counsellor.
What I offer you
As an experienced and registered counsellor I am skilled at building warm, safe and healing relationships in which you can talk about the issues that may concern you. My aim is to establish a both a counselling relationship and an environment within which you can feel safe and encouraged to explore whatever issues or concerns you bring.
As a counsellor I will work with you respectfully and without judgment, together we can decide how long we will meet and how I can best help you. I will encourage you to talk about what's bothering you in order to uncover any root causes and identify your specific ways of thinking. Creating a plan of action to either help you reconcile your issues or help you to find ways of coping.
How to make the most of counselling with Helen

- Email: firstname.lastname@example.org
I offer the first meeting at a reduced rate, this is an opportunity to help you decide whether you would feel at ease when working with me and to find out about the sort of work we would be doing and importantly how therapy may help you. This can help you feel clearer and more certain about your decision to start with counselling or psychotherapy.
I have premises in a discrete but central Shrewsbury location and there is parking nearby. You will receive individual attention and no lengthy waits in a public waiting room.
How long will it take?
Some people find that a few sessions are all they need, and some people need longer. I recommend a minimum of 4- 6 sessions, but there is no time limit - you can take as long or as short as you feel is right for you. I offer both counselling and long term depth psychotherapy on a weekly basis.
My fees are
- £40 per full hour of therapy
- £30 per hour Student rates
- I have some places at a reduced fee in cases of hardship.
For Counselling to be effective, a session needs to be held on either a weekly or fortnightly basis. We can discuss this further, during your initial enquiry or within your first session.
Appointments available in Shrewsbury town centre within easy reach of both parking and public transport.
How I can help
Sometimes we can feel overwhelmed by the difficulties and confusions that we face in our lives. As a result we may not be able to talk to anyone around us about these challenges, which can leave us feeling isolated and alone. I am experienced in working individually with clients concerned with many areas,
- Anxiety and fear
- LGBT issues
- Life development
- Loss and bereavement
- Low self-confidence
- Relationship & family issues
- Relationship issues
I have a particular interest in Attachment, Bonding and Maternal depression. I offer counselling to parents who would like support in coping with issues relating to pregnancy
such as adjustment to pregnancy, acceptance, body image, birth experience, trauma and pregnancy loss (miscarriage, stillbirth and neonatal death)
Choosing to seek help can feel daunting but working with someone who is professionally trained to listen and offer support in a non-judgmental environment can provide a unique opportunity in which to be understood. Exploring our problems like this can enable clarity and as such effect change.
