About me

Navigating challenging family dynamics or life transitions can be confusing and distressing, impacting your sense of self and well-being. Whether grappling with strained relationships, questioning your gender identity or sexuality or undergoing significant life changes like parenthood, family estrangement, or menopause, these experiences can leave you feeling lost and unsure of how to move forward.

Seeking support during these times can offer clarity, validation, and guidance to help you navigate and thrive amidst uncertainty.

Perhaps it’s time we should talk?

Hello. I am Helen Gilbert, your therapist, and we will get through this together.

A bit more about me…
I'm a psychotherapist who works with people who need support to make sense of what's going on and to find a way to breathe a little more easily.

How this therapy thing works…
I don't try to impose my own agenda or theory onto you and your situation. Therapy is different with every person who engages in the process, shaped by your experiences and needs.

My approach involves working with whatever arises in our sessions. I see therapy as an ever-deepening conversation where we can together explore and make sense of your experiences.

I usually work with people who are committed to the process of therapy over at least six months. However, I also provide short-term support to those with a very specific focus or goals.

What if I think therapy is not for me…

Therapy could help you understand how your past relationships, upbringing and way of thinking might affect you. We will work together to help you process what's happening, get to know yourself better and help you live more freely.

Therapy can help to process what's happening, find grounding from being overwhelmed, make sense of and clarify difficult and confusing behaviours and feelings.

Together, we’ll find a way forward.

If you need supervision…

What am I particularly good at as a supervisor?
Creating a learning opportunity—-space to think and reflect on the work you do with your clients.
Keeping a space open for different possibilities. Help you to get clearer about what is going on between you and your client.
I have worked with both trainees and experienced therapists, finding fulfilment in supporting their growth.
I find supervisory group settings particularly rewarding.

Who is my ideal supervisee?
I enjoy supervising individuals who integrate different approaches or are drawn to a phenomenological perspective. With my background in existential-analysis, I can offer valuable insights into exploring the relational dynamics, unconscious processes, and existential or psychoanalytic aspects of therapy.

Let’s talk!

Here’s how to get in touch
Book a 15-minute exploratory call with me
Book a full session with me

And one last thing. Remember, whatever it is, we can work through this. Together!

Frequently Asked Questions
What type of therapy do you provide?
I trained as an existential-analytic psychotherapist which is an approach to talk therapy that can involve exploring childhood and family, and making meaning of what is happening that might be causing suffering.

What is your process?
I see clients for an initial session or sessions and we then decide whether we are a good fit and agree to a contract. This may be time-limited or open-ended. I usually see clients for weekly sessions but also offer a fortnightly or bi-weekly contract as appropriate.

How much does it cost?
I charge £70 per session with a discounted rate for trainee therapists and others on a low income. Please ask if you need a low-cost rate.

Do you offer supervision?
Yes. I offer supervision for trainees and experienced therapists.
