Helen Backhouse, PG Dip, UKCP, Psychotherapist, EMDR Practitioner
I am an experienced Psychotherapist working in Victoria and Harrow on the Hill with clients who present with a wide range of life issues and from a variety of cultures. My aim is to provide a safe, supportive, therapeutic environment where you can explore your concerns, hopes and challenges. I work according to what is appropriate for each client drawing on a variety of methods including CBT, Mindfulness and EMDR; I have special interests in working in the areas of Anxiety, Depression and Addictions; both the addict and those affected by another's addiction.
I am a member of UKCP and abide by their code of ethics as well as a member of EMDR UK and Ireland.
Training, qualifications & experience
I have completed five years of training at The Centre for Counselling and Psychotherapy in London (CCPE), holding a Post Graduate Diploma in Counselling and Psychotherapy. I am an EMDR Practitioner and have a Diploma in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). My original training was Integrative and I continue regular further training to develop my skills and my practice.
Prior to my retraining in Psychotherapy I had a successful career as a Graphic Designer in the Music Industry and in Design Consultancy; I appreciate the challenges of juggling emotional wellbeing with contemporary life and value the part that the creative process plays in this.
I have worked for many years on an acute ward in a psychiatric hospital where I facilitate groups and offer individual psychotherapy and counselling sessions. I have extensive experience working as an Addictions Counsellor as well as in working with a variety of different presenting issues including anxiety, depression, trauma, low self esteem, relationship difficulties, life changes, family problems, loss and lack of confidence. This list is by no means exhaustive; please contact me if you would like to discuss further how I may help you.
I have a private practice where I see clients in Victoria and Harrow on the Hill.
I have experience of working with adults both in short term Counselling (6-12 sessions) and longer term Psychotherapy.
