Helen Arthy, Reg. MBCAP
Thank you for visiting my page. Finding the right counsellor is a really important part of the counselling process. The relationship you develop with each other will have a big influence on the outcome of the work you do together.
I am a qualified Humanistic Integrative counsellor registered with the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists (BACP) working with young people (16yrs+) and adults. My main approach is person centered but I find it useful to draw on other approaches as and when they seem to be appropriate for each individual client.
People come to counselling for many reasons. If you are feeling low, stressed, anxious, overwhelmed, isolated, unable to cope, it is an opportunity for a unique kind of conversation in which you, the client, are at the centre. It is a way of exploring your world and gaining a greater understanding of what is going on. This understanding can be helpful in allowing you to move forward in the way you want.
I offer counselling face to face, by phone or skype and work short term (4-6 weeks) or long term according to your needs. The first session is 1 hour as it is an assessment and involves taking down some personal details. Subsequent sessions are 50 minutes. I agree a contract with my clients in order to be clear about boundaries around confidentiality and practical arrangements. This helps clients feel secure in the work we do together.
Contact me for a free 30 minute Non-Therapeutic consultation which provides you the opportunity to get a better sense of who I am and what I am offering. Alternatively, the Counselling Directory website provides lots of useful information to help guide you through getting help, and what you might like to think about before approaching a counsellor.
