About me

Only when we are brave enough to explore the darkness will we discover the infinite power of our light. Brene Brown

What is counselling?

People seek counselling for many different reasons. Sometimes they do not know what is wrong, just that something is not right. Inevitably we will all face difficult and challenging times in life when we may feel overwhelmed, and unable to cope. At such times, most people will admit that it is helpful to talk. Unfortunately, when we need to be heard most, we may not feel fully understood by those we talk to. Perhaps those around us, such as friends or family, are too close to be able to really hear what we are trying to say.

This is where counselling can be helpful because it provides a uniquely ‘safe’ space for us to explore feelings at our own pace with someone who is not directly involved, but who is professionally qualified, and who will listen to us and accept us without judging or criticising.

My commitment to you

As a fully qualified and experienced counsellor, I will listen to you and try hard to understand things from your perspective without judgement or criticisism. I believe that no one knows better than you what it is like to live your life, and I believe that you have all the answers you need within you. My role is to accompany you on a journey to bring into awareness what may be troubling you, and to discover together ways to remove obstacles and make changes necessary to face the future more positively.

I will provide a space for you to be yourself. I will accept you as you are without condition, and it is my hope that we can build a trusting therapeutic relationship in which you will have the freedom to express yourself and find your own answers. I truly believe this relationship is at the heart of successful outcomes in therapy, which is why I will always strive to create and build upon trust and mutual respect.

I work with both adults, children and young people, and I am able to deliver a range of therapeutic interventions to suit the individual's needs including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy techniques. I am committed to providing treatment which is safe and supportive, and which offers the opportunity for real and lasting change.

You are not alone - Real and lasting change is possible.

Training, qualifications & experience

Experience:-

Adults:  In my private practice I have worked effectively with adults on a variety of issues including General Anxiety Disorder, depression, work related stress and relationship difficulties.

Children & Young people: I have extensive experience of working with children and young people in a variety of settings, including primary and secondary schools, and local youth agencies. I have a special interest in helping young people to feel heard and understood. Many emotional problems later in life stem from unresolved childhood issues so I am passionate about early intervention as being key to a successful outcome, and therefore helping individuals to reach their full potential.

Some of the issues I have worked with are; Anxiety, (general anxiety disorder, social anxiety, panic attacks, panic disorder, post traumatic stress disorder) depression, low self esteem, parental divorce/separation, exam stress, self-harm, OCD, anger, relationship difficulties, eating disorders and bereavement.

In addition to my private practice work, I served as the Mental Health Lead at a secondary school in Buckinghamshire, where I set up and managed a counselling service. I have worked for Place2be, a children's mental health charity providing school-based support and therapeutic intervention for primary school aged children.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
