About me

I am on the Register of Play and Creative Arts Therapists that has been accredited by the Professional Standards Authority. (http://www.playtherapyregister.org.uk)

I am a qualified child play and creative arts therapist (APAC - http://apac.org.uk), clinical supervisor (APAC - http://apac.org.uk) and graduate psychologist (Ankara University-http://www.dtcf.ankara.edu.tr/en/department-of-psychology-2/), specialising in working with children and adolescents aged 3-17 years old and their families. I have over twenty years of work experience with children and young people in various roles and capacities, in voluntary and statutory services.

My career as a child-centred Play therapist has always focused on enabling the voices of children and young people to be heard in a safe and secure therapeutic relationship.  My practice is underpinned by humanistic and person centered and relational approaches as well systems-based cultural theory and having appreciation and knowledge of different modalities, theory and practice.

My personal and professional values are non-judgmental and client- centered, with a commitment to therapeutic best practice and personal and professional integrity.

I am inspired to be a safe practitioner providing children and young people an opportunity to explore their own experiences through 1:1 therapy and group work; working with parents of children to develop parental capacity and reflective functioning. I deliver INSET or other training on children’s mental health and emotional wellbeing; creating therapeutic interventions and resources, and producing high quality reports on children’s progress for staff, parents and multi- agency meetings as required.

In my private practitioner role, I provide therapy, training, consultancy and clinical supervision. I am based in North London, Dalston Kingsland, E8.

As a clinical supervisor, I provide guidance and support in the clinical work of other play and creative arts therapists. I also offer workshops, training and consultation for the agencies.

I also have experience in delivering online/ remote therapeutic support for children and young people when this is needed and deemed as suitable.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am registered with the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP- https://www.bacp.co.uk/) and Play Therapy United Kingdom (PTUK- http://www.playtherapy.org.uk).

I have my psychology degree from Ankara University, DTCF, Psychology Department (http://www.dtcf.ankara.edu.tr/en/department-of-psychology/)  in 2000 which has been recognised by NARIC and British Psychological Society as Graduate Member.

I also have training in Jungian Sandplay Training with Dr Barbara Turner in California, US (Level 1 and Advanced Level), Psychodrama with Dr Inci Doganer in Izmir, Turkey (Foundation, Attendance) , Family Therapy with Turkish Psychological Association, (Level 1 and Level 2 Foundation level Cert of Attendance),  ILM Management & Leadership training.

In my last role, I have worked as a Children’s Therapy Services Manager in a specialist domestic violence charity for the last 7 years, whilst also working in private practice in part-time capacity for the last 10 years.

I have set up and managed several specialist domestic abuse therapeutic support services for children and the families. The play therapy projects that I have set up for local authority and social services include many London boroughs such as Camden, Islington, Lambeth, Enfield, Hounslow, Hammersmith, Ealing, Wandsworth and Hillingdon.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Other areas of counselling I deal with

I provide Jungian Sandplay Therapy for children and adults in any age.

The Sandplay Method is a creative arts therapy modality, which consists of the child, or adult client making whatever he or she feels like building with a wide assortment of miniature figures in a tray of sand in the presence of a trained professional. Generally, this is done in silence. There is no judgment or comment from the therapist

Sandplay therapy, along with art therapy and other sensory-based, expressive methods have been identified as a best “trauma- informed practice” with children and adolescents (Steele & Kuban, 2011; Steele & Malchiodi, 2012; Freedle, 2012).
