Profile

I am a qualified and experienced counsellor and psychotherapist working privately in Stroud and Bristol. I work with both adults, couples and parents with young children. I offer a safe, supportive and empathic space for you to explore your issues, starting with a free introductory session. Our work together can be either short-term or more open ended, depending on your needs.

I work with a wide range of issues, including anxiety, stress, depression, abuse, PTSD, sexuality and relationship difficulties, bereavement and spiritual crisis. I also support individuals to heal early trauma relating to prenatal and birth experiences. My approach is based on mindfulness but may also include hands on body work and movement, in addition to calling on the imagination and creativity e.g. art, dreams.

I deeply trust the healing journey and am deeply committed to my own self-development and to accompanying others, both adults and children, to find their way back to wholeness and well being.

Training, Qualifications & Experience

I trained in Core Process Psychotherapy at the Karuna Institute in Devon and am accredited with UKCP. I have 12 years experience working individually with clients. In 2010 I qualified as a parent-child therapist with the Institute for Arts in Therapy and Education and am passionate about supporting healthy relationships within families.

I have a particular interest in working with early trauma in the body and have trained with pioneers in the field of prenatal and birth psychology from the States, such as William Emerson, Ray Castellino and Karlton Terry. In 2001-3 I also trained in craniosacral therapy with Franklyn Sills at the Karuna Institute in order to deepen my understanding and develop more skills in working with trauma. This work is influenced by Peter Levine's Somatic Experiencing.

In addition to one to one work, I run day workshops introducing prenatal and birth psychology. This work is extremely supportive for those who wish to explore both theoretically and experientially the impact of early experience on their relationship to themselves, others and the wider environment. Pregnant women, couples, health professionals, therapists and early years educators can also benefit from this work.  Please see my website www.birthwithspirit.co.uk for more information.

I am in regular supervision and attend further training every year. I am currently training in somatic psychology and movement therapy. Spiritual practice also underpins my therapeutic work and I attend retreats on a regular basis.

Further Information

I am particularly interested in the area of spiritual emergence. For those who are more resourced, this may be a gradual process of psycho-spiritual awakening, but for others this may manifest as an acute spiritual crisis, with psychosis and  suicidal thoughts. I am involved with the Spiritual Crisis Network and am an active member of the local group in Stroud. We offer voluntary support to those in spiritual crisis and to their family/ carers.
