About me

None of us are immune to life's difficulties, and speaking with a counsellor whilst going through difficult times can significantly lessen your burden. It provides you with the time, space and support to process where you are in your life right now, and where you want to be heading.

I have been working within the counselling field for over 17 years. I have worked within NHS settings and various counselling organisations in that time, offering a variety of proven, effective therapies to assist a wide range of issues. I hold a BACP accredited Bachelor's degree in Counselling, and abide by their code of ethics.

Counselling is a collaborative process where we work together as a team. The relationship that you have with your counsellor is the single most important factor with regards to successful outcomes. I always encourage clients to have a free 20 minute telephone conversation with me to get a feel for whether we might be the right match. I know at first, it can be a daunting prospect to speak with a counsellor, but I always aim to make the sessions as comfortable and as relaxed as possible. Please take a look at some of the testimonials below.

People embark on their own counselling journey for a whole host of reasons......you may have a lot of stress in your life that has become overwhelming, or past life experiences may have had an impact on who you are today and you are ready to make some changes. You may have various traumas to process, or unhealthy behavioural patterns that you'd like to address.

I work holistically with clients, looking at the past, present and future. Our sessions will help you to develop self awareness, unveil blind spots, discover what defence mechanisms and cognitive distortions might be present, understand your own psychology and behavioural patterns. All of which generates awareness, which creates change!

I  integrate aspects from an array of therapeutic approaches to assist the counselling process.  There is no 'one size fits all' approach with counselling so I tailor my interventions dependent on what you need.

I have two main areas of special interest, one of which being OCD. I have worked with numerous clients with obsessive compulsive disorder with great success. The other is helping clients in chronic pain whereby I utilise a combination of therapeutic intervention and knowledge therapy to assist in reducing or eliminating chronic pain based upon the mind/body connection, brain science and the work of Dr John Sarno.

You can have as many or as little amount of sessions that you require.  We will do various reviews along the way to check in on progress and any areas that still need addressing.

I offer counselling to individuals and also couples counselling. Please feel free to message me if you have any questions.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Testimonials:

"When I started counselling sessions with Hannah I was quite nervous as I had never had any sort of counselling in the past.  However, Hannah immediately put me at ease on our first initial meeting - which she offers for free (something I did not find that many other counsellors do in the area).  I think it was a really good experience to meet Hannah first with no strings attached.  She gave me time to think about whether I would like to book an assessment after our meeting and I did not feel pressured to do so.  I decided to book an assessment which was daunting at first.  However, again I was immediately put at ease and felt Hannah was a very good listener.  During our further sessions together Hannah gave me good ideas about how to cope with my anxiety and gave me further reading to help when I was at home.  Overall, the counselling experience was a very positive one for me.  I found Hannah to be friendly, confident, empathetic, knowledgeable and professional at all times.  I would recommend Hannah as a counsellor to anybody who is considering booking an initial session.  It took me a little while to pluck up the courage to book a session and I am now very glad that I did it!  Thank you Hannah for your support during a difficult time"., A (29)

"I went to Clearview Counselling following the death of my father as I was struggling to deal with the bereavement process.  I found Hannah great as a counsellor and quickly formed a trusting and understanding relationship with her which allowed me to be open and share my problems.  Hannah set out at the start the counselling process, what counselling can and can't do and continued to provide a professional but 'homely' experience that put me at ease.  I am so pleased with the progress I have made, not only in dealing with my bereavement, but other aspects of my life that I was not aware were affecting my own life contentment"., S (37)

"I came to see Hannah as a counsellor at first because she was local to me and had a kind face.  Previously I had seen another counsellor but being of a younger generation to her I felt there was often a disconnect.  Hannah was very welcoming from the word go, and has greatly helped me get through a severe bout of depression.  She is consistently supportive but also assertive in pushing me to face some of my demons.  With a great amount of help from Hannah I have now recovered to the point where I am looking forward to starting a new job next week.  Something I didn't believe I had the strength to do ever again now just feels exciting"., P (40)

"Looking back at when I first started counselling, 2 years ago from now, I realise how destructive I was as a person and how lacking in positivity my life was; not for any reason, but because of a negative and habitual mind set that I had become stuck in and prisoner of. Hannah helped me talk through my issues and find the reasons behind why I was feeling that way in order to address them emotionally and subjectively. It taught me that counselling is about the small subtle changes in a person over time rather than drastic leaps. Small revelations are the most important. It was a safe, trusting environment and I wouldn’t be as strong and as grounded a person as I am today without her nor have such a confident and optimistic outlook on life"., B (18)

"I came to Hannah seeking help, with a feeling of deep sadness! Having come home from America after just 7 weeks, what I planned to be my life for the next 4 years, I felt emotionless and heartbroken. I tried very hard to fight off the feelings of sadness etc but it wasn’t something I knew I could easily fix on my own, nor forget. I went to Hannah seeking someone to talk to in confidence and who could support me in ways a close friend or family couldn’t. I am grateful for all the help Hannah gave me when I needed it most and I can say that I have turned my life around and will be going to university this year, despite all that has happened." L., (20)

"I never thought I could make such progress in only 9 months. I’ve suffered from bouts of depression, confusion and anxiety throughout most of my adolescence, often resorting to alcohol in recent years for comfort or stress release. I began to think that I would never be able to escape from the cycle. As I’m nearing 20, I’m not completely 100%, but I feel so much better about myself and confident that I am able to tackle my adult years head on with tools which Hannah has taught me. I would always look forward to my sessions with Hannah as I was able to talk about simple day-to-day as well as deep personal issues to someone completely impartial. She was friendly, easy to talk to, non-judgemental and extremely helpful." L., (19)

"Hannah is an incredibly professional counsellor. She really helped me get through my depression when things felt at their worst. She is very understanding and I felt comfortable enough to tell her everything I had on my mind. She was very reassuring and put my mind at ease by explaining why I was feeling the way I was. Hannah has helped improve all aspects of my life, she has made me have a more positive outlook on life. I cannot thank you enough" C., (25)

"Hannah was very easy to talk to, very insightful and thought provoking. The sessions always went quickly and helped me to understand and tackle some of my issues. I feel more confident and empowered to progress into a happier future. Thank you Hannah." J., (43)

"I was anxious at first about going to counselling, because I had been to counselling before and did not see any improvements. However, when I came to see Hannah, I knew I had made the right decision.  At the start, I was suffering from anxiety surrounding my university work and I felt like I needed to speak to someone about it, in addition to my family and friends. Hannah was very welcoming and understanding, which made it easy to talk about my issues and learn to overcome them. I would like to thank Hannah for all of the help she has given me and I would definitely recommend her as a counsellor." L., (19)

"I reached possibly the lowest point of my life and decided that some help may be needed. After 1 session with Hannah I found it was a good way to release your emotions. For me, I felt I had exhausted talking to my friends and family, and it was a good way to look at my troubles and overcome them. I have already recommended a friend to go and see Hannah, and I will definitely recommend her to anybody with troubles. I didn't think I would ever get back to being myself but Hannah has finally helped me to achieve that. Thank you" A., (24)

"I found counselling very beneficial as it made me analyse my behaviour and put things into perspective.  Hannah is a great listener and also very supportive.  I found the process very rewarding and would recommend Hannah as a counsellor." C., (35)

" I knew I'd got to a place where I needed outside help. Initially I was a little unsure as previously counselling many years ago had proved unsuccessful and pointless. I found Hannah very easy to talk to. She understood my needs and was able to guide me through a difficult period of my life, which I had let build up, trying to bury feelings away and pretending I could cope by ignoring them and not dealing with them head on, or look at why they happened. I needed support and Hannah was there for me. I was able to have my appointments around my busy work schedule and always felt that Hannah was at the end of the phone if I needed her. I have learnt a lot about myself throughout the sessions I received, it has made me a better, happier and more positive person. I would definitely recommend Hannah to others and would return to her if I needed to. You are very good at your job Hannah and you made me a better person for it. Thank you." S., (40)

"I came to Hannah last year, in my final year of my A levels seeking help with anxiety issues and personal family affairs which had been affecting me. She not only listened attentively and made me feel heard and understood but also offered her advice on how to deal with various situations in my life at the time. Through my sessions with her, Hannah has helped me manage my social anxiety and learn how to deal effectively with the problems in my life. I appreciated her honesty and professionalism in our sessions but she is also very good at making a person feel at ease and comfortable from the moment you sit down with her which, for me personally, helped very much in being able to open up to her. Thank you very much Hannah for all you did for me." N., (18)

"Hannah, I can't put into words how thankful I am for all your help and support - it's changed me as a person and has allowed me to see my own strength and value myself, which I could not have done without you.  It really means more than I can say in words, so 'thank you' will have to be enough! " R., (16)

" Before we entered into counselling we were in a bad place in our relationship. Myself and my wife could not find a way out of our increasing problems and difficulties with each other. We were very close to ending our Marriage.  Meeting Hannah and having the regular counselling helped us defuse our situation. She listened to our problems and helped us look at the issues and understand what was happening, The anxiety and anger that we felt over our problems ended as she gave us the tools to look at what the problems were and how to deal with them in our own time. We now have a relationship that is enjoyable and easy thanks to what we have learnt. I would have no hesitation in recommending Hannah" B&K., (29 & 37)

" When me and my husband were experiencing infertility and starting tests and treatments I felt I needed to see someone as I was becoming extremely depressed and anxious. Hannah was incredibly warm and empathic and helped me to manage my anxieties better and support me through this awful time. I cannot recommend Hannah enough" R., (32)

" I approached Hannah after researching the 'Counselling Directory' for the Horsham area. I am in my early 50's and have never visited a counsellor before.  I was therefore a little apprehensive but Hannah immediately put me at ease and explained exactly what the sessions would cover.  Hannah has patiently explored my issues and my self-esteem and confidence are back on track!  Thank you Hannah, I would not hesitate to recommend you where possible" J., (51)

"Hannah was very professional and took great care to assess my daughter's needs when we came for counselling.  My daughter was going through some emotional struggles and as a parent I was apprehensive about counselling and giving my daughter into someone else's hands.  But Hannah made me and my daughter feel at ease.  She helped my daughter tremendously with her struggles, and therefore everytime my daughter came out of sessions with Hannah I could see a change and how much it really helped her with her confidence and understanding of herself.  I would recommend Hannah to anyone who is in need of counselling" M., (12)

"Before starting my sessions with Hannah I felt utterly lost and due to childhood experiences had a life long habit of keeping things bottled up, leaving me feeling very lonely and depressed. Hannah has helped me in so many ways, I have learnt and understand so much and now have reached a place of self acceptance and have a new found confidence in myself and in others. I'd like to take this opportunity to thank you again Hannah, you have helped me find a happier and content place in life and I can't explain to you how much it means to me to be able to say that. Thank you Hannah!" S., (29)

" I am a young professional male, who initially went to see Hannah as I was struggling to come to terms with my mixed feelings following a relationship breakup. I went for 8 sessions over two months. Professionally, Hannah is a competent and knowledgeable counsellor. On a more personal level though, she is approachable, kind, empathic and easy to talk to about anything. She used these two differing skill sets perfectly to enable me to develop, express and talk about thoughts and feelings that I was otherwise unaware I had. I learnt so much about myself in the process, and almost certainly equipped myself better to deal with situations in the future as a result of our sessions. I chose Hannah because I wanted a counsellor of a similar age to me, and I knew that would give her a better and more understanding insight into my experiences. This proved to be so, and Hannah could relate easily to me, in a down to earth, positive way, and as such provided me with just the kind of counselling I needed. I would thoroughly recommend Hannah to anyone seeking counselling." S.,(33)

" At first I felt embarrassed about having counselling but Hannah made me feel completely relaxed and at ease. She enabled me to realise that I can be strong, positive and in control of my life. I now recommend others to seek counselling if they are struggling because it has helped my self confidence no end-thanks Hannah" P.,(30)

"My time with Hannah has been extremely beneficial.  She has helped me understand that I have a voice and a right to be heard.  I now have the tools to work with to build my confidence and to face difficult life challenges.  During my counselling sessions, Hannah was very professional and supportive.  She guided me throughout my time with her.  She did not carry me, but gave me the awareness and ability to think for myself and about myself" M.,(42)

" I found my counselling sessions with Hannah very thought provoking and a great support in my training as a counsellor. I felt that I made significant changes in roads towards greater self-acceptance and knowledge in the 12 weeks I had with Hannah. It as a very worthwhile experience" B.,(44)

"I initially went to see Hannah because bringing up a child with a disability had really got me down. I felt I had lost my own identity & had lost my self-esteem. I immediately felt comfortable with Hannah & had no problem opening up & talking to her.  As my weeks went on I began to work through some things which were deeply troubling me & felt very safe with Hannah.  I felt supported at some of the most difficult times & the exercises we did with the shell placement was very helpful to use as a visual aid even months after my sessions had finished.
Hannah is a very warm caring person who sat & listened to me & really helped me to hear what I was saying.  She wasn't pushy, she didnt ever make me feel uncomfortable & I felt very nurtured by her counselling skills.
I highly recommend her." S., (37)

"Many thanks for your time and efforts over the past 9 months. You have helped no end and it's very much appreciated" M., (34)

"I just wanted to write you this card to say thankyou for all the help you have given me over the past year. Our sessions have helped me so much and I am really going to miss seeing you" H., (25)
