Training, qualifications & experience

Bachelor of Science in Psychology, Nottingham Trent University (2003)
Doctoral Qualification in Clinical Psychology, University of Surrey (2011)

These are the qualifications I require to practice as a clinical psychologist.  I also have numerous additional qualifications in particular therapy approaches.

I am a fully qualified HCPC Registered Clinical Psychologist.  The HCPC (Health and Care Professions Council) is the governing body which all Clinical Psychologists in the UK must register with in order to practice.  I am also a Chartered Member of the British Psychological Society which means that I meet the 'gold standard' of psychological knowledge and expertise, as recognised by the society, and adhere to high levels of ethical practice, showing a commitment to continuing professional development.

I have worked both within the NHS and private setting.  I work to guide the process of therapy through research methods that are proven to be effective ways to help individuals manage their emotions.  Not one method fits all; I am passionate about guiding the process of therapy in line with your objectives; contributing what I believe will be the most helpful in moving you forward.

Some therapy approaches which I use include:

Cognitive behavioural therapy
Acceptance and commitment therapy
Motivational interviewing
Solution Focused therapy

Further information

Choosing a therapist can be a really tricky decision so I am happy to help in any way I can.  A lot of people have a lot of questions of which a common one is - what is a clinical psychologist?

‘Chartered Clinical Psychologist’ is a title protected by the British Psychological Society (BPS) and the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).  Qualifying as a clinical psychologist requires doctoral-level training and competence in a variety of therapeutic techniques such as CBT, Mindfulness, systemic and family therapy and standard counselling.  This enables a clinical psychologist to be adaptable and flexible in their approach, offering therapy which is very much tailored to the needs of the individual.

As a chartered clinical psychologist I have training and experience in working with more complex problems where someone may have been suffering with difficulties for a long time or with multiple problems at once in addition to more mild to moderate issues.

If you have any further questions or require more information, you are more than welcome to contact me by calling 020 7846 0302 or emailing me on dr.virdee@ebbflowpsychology.com.
