About me

Hello, I’m a principal psychodynamic psychotherapist with 30 years’ experience of working within the NHS mental health and psychoanalytic psychotherapy services. I also see people privately in NW6 London and can be contacted for psychotherapy consultation and for longer term face-to-face psychotherapy.

Psychotherapy involves meeting with me on a regular basis for sessions that last fifty minutes. I provide a reliable, confidential setting which gives us the chance to connect and to find a serious focus on your thoughts and feelings. As we meet regularly a process evolves which can help you to find a way to understand your experiences and establish a space in which developmental difficulties across the lifespan can be attended to. Even very complex and repetitive difficulties can be worked through over time.

People often come to see me because they need help to resolve or understand their difficulties like depression, trauma, or anxiety and may have become unwell or wish to feel better. Coming to understand your history, life experiences and feelings retrospectively can involve some difficult emotional movement when we talk within a session. I think of this process as us working together to help you to develop a strong sense of self and good mental health.

Central to psychodynamic psychotherapy is the recognition that our emotional life is a fundamental part of being human, and that we might all need help with thinking about our thoughts and feelings at an unconscious level during our lives. Psychodynamic psychotherapy is one of the few types of psychotherapy that shines a light on your unconscious, and with further reflection psychotherapy can help you to develop a substantial sense of self.

From my experience and training I help people with a range of mental health difficulties. I also see trainee psychotherapists, counsellors, and clinical psychologists through their BPC, UKCP, BACP or BPS accredited trainings.

Currently I manage and clinically supervise the Honorary Psychotherapist NHS placements at Harrow Psychotherapy Service. I also teach and supervise psychiatrists training in medical psychoanalytic psychotherapy.

Member organisations

Registered / Accredited

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BPC
British Psychoanalytic Council (BPC)

The British Psychoanalytic Council (BPC) is a professional association, representing the profession of psychoanalytic psychotherapy.

The organisation is itself made up of fourteen member organisations and BPC accredits the trainings of its member organisations. An individual who qualifies from one of these trainings is then eligible for entry into the BPC's register.

BPC registrants are governed by a code of ethics, a policy of continuing professional development, a statement on confidentiality and a complaints procedure. The BPC is a Member Society of the European Federation for Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy in the Public Sector (EFPP). Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Other areas of counselling I deal with

From my experience and training people tend to come to see me with feeling depressed, preoccupied, or anxious and may have been diagnosed with depression, anxiety, treatment resistant depression, melancholia, and personality difficulties. This might mean that we may work more intensively over several sessions a week when required. I am also happy to meet with you if you are experiencing other difficulties and want to make sense of your feelings, relationships,  and position in the world.

Additional information

I offer a free initial phone call prior to making any arrangements for a consultation.

The initial face to face consultations for psychotherapy take place over several sessions. One of the aims of the consultation process is for me to hear about your history and to come to understand whether psychotherapy could be of benefit to you. The consultations also allow for you to see whether we can work well together. The initial consultations therefore offer a therapeutic experience over several sessions, people often find this process to be invaluable, thought provoking and sometimes unsettling.

Initial consultation fee is £90 for each session.

Ongoing session fees are discussed within the consultation process
