About me

Welcome and thank you for reading my profile.

Are you experiencing thoughts or feelings you no longer want, or is there a situation you would like to change? Counselling is about helping you with the challenges you are currently facing, so that you may understand and cope with feelings and emotions more effectively. You may have been struggling with these difficulties for some time, I can help you find ways to break cycles and move forward with life. Helping you to unravel dilemmas, enabling you to feel less isolated or adrift and offer you a safe place to explore these thoughts and feelings that you may be suppressing.

"Let go of who you think you're supposed to be; embrace who you are."

Brene Brown

I provide a professional and confidential counselling and psychotherapy service to people 18 years and over, working in an integrative way I will tailor my counselling style to suit your needs. Offering you insights into issues that may have arisen from the past or present, help you recognise how this affects you in the here and now and focus on changing the negative thoughts and behaviours into more positive ones. This can bring positive changes to your decision making and actions, which can enable you to develop a greater understanding of yourself and how you relate to others. It helps you to consider the changes you may wish to make in order to help yourself and to make those changes with the support of an ongoing therapeutic relationship.

I am qualified to post graduate diploma level 7 as a counsellor and psychotherapist with over 10 years experience. A fully registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and an accredited registrant with the National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society (NCPS). I am committed to working within these ethical boundaries. You can find out more about the BACP and NCPS by visiting their websites, www.bacp.co.uk, www.nationalcounsellingsociety.org, where I am registered on both.

My practice is easily accessible, just a short drive from junction 24 of the M4, with parking available. If you would like to make an appointment or have any questions about how counselling can help you, please feel free to contact me in confidence by telephone on 07787 550897 and leave a message, or alternatively by email at gilliefarnworth@icloud.com.

I have been practicing in the Newport area for 10 years, much of my experience has been gained whilst working closely with vulnerable adults within local government support services. I have also consulted with multi-national companies with reference to stress management as required.

In my capacity working within the Private Healthcare sector I have worked with some of the UK's most prevalent bariatric surgeons. My first hand knowledge of Gastric Band and Gastric Bypass surgery means that I can offer empathy and true understanding to anyone thinking of having these procedures. This can be an extremely emotional and confusing time where by counselling can offer you some clarity and peace of mind, allowing you to make an informed decision.

The Fast Trauma Cure:

Traditionally trauma has been treated over long periods of time, maybe even years. This can often be a very painful experience for the recipient, revisiting distressing memories that you would really rather forget, hence many find it easier to avoid seeking help altogether. I am experienced in working with The Fast Trauma Cure, which is otherwise known as 'The Rewind' technique. Although this cannot erase the memory, the technique works by allowing the individual, whilst in a safe relaxed state, to revisit the traumatic memory and store this as an ‘ordinary’ non-threatening memory; instead of a memory that continually activates the flight or fight response. It can be used to treat any trauma from PTSD, rape, sexual abuse, child abuse, bullying and much more.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

NCPS

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
