Issues I Work With
In addition to the issues I highlighted previously, clients bring to therapy a wide spectrum of issues which include: Relationship Difficulties, Low Self Esteem and Confidence, Work Issues and Career Counselling, Debt Management, Child Related Issues, Internet and Virtual Issues and many other types of distress.
Not Sure What Your Issues Are?
There really are no right or wrong issues to bring to therapy. Additionally, not all clients are initially aware of what their issues are. Through careful exploration however we will aim to find clarity about presenting or underlying issue/s and then if required, we can proceed to work on them.
How I Work
Whether doing long term or short term therapy, I consider it important to build a relationship of equality and trust in which I encourage and assist clients to explore events, feelings thoughts and behaviors that are relevant to them. I listen carefully, with empathy and without judgement, and at a pace that is comfortable. I will initially explore with clients their goals or aims in therapy. Our work may include addressing areas such as; looking at conscious and unconscious feelings and behaviors, working through past events, developing reliable coping strategies, gaining greater control of thoughts and changing unwanted behaviors. I aim to help clients learn from their own experience, encouraging new ways of thinking or expression of feelings, overall supporting clients to make the changes they want to make.
I am delighted that most clients report immediate relief after just one session, and after several, have started to make significant progress as well as gain an improved overall sense of well being.
Clients eventually are ready to leave therapy when they have achieved the changes they desire, feeling more in control of things and having gained confidence in new coping strategies and decision making.
The models of therapy I use are: Psychodynamic, TA, (Transactional Analysis) Gestalt, Person Centered and CBT.(Cognitive Behavioral Therapy).

Working With Difference & Diversity
I am comfortable working with difference and diversity, drawing often from my experience of living and working overseas in cultures very different from my own. I learned how it felt to sometimes be an observer of a society, rather than a participator. Sometimes accent, language, culture, religious beliefs, sexual identity or physical appearance can separate or exclude people, resulting in feelings of isolation which can be devastating. In my therapeutic work I am encouraged by the knowledge that clients who are different, or who feel so, for whatever reason, report feeling very comfortable working with me. Consequently this continues to deepen my understanding about what living with difference & diversity consistently entails.
The Therapy Space is Crucial
I believe that the counsellng experience is enhanced if it takes place in a particular kind of space. Inner Clarity offers a different experience to that of entering a therapists home. Our space is not only free from domestic reminders, it is spacious, welcoming and purposely designed to help clients feel safe and at ease. The ambiance is calm yet inspiring. All lounges and reception areas are comfortable and tastefully decorated.
Associate therapists who work alongside me at Inner Clarity are dedicated in their fields of work: Counselling, Psychology, Psychotherapy and Hypnotherapy. We aim to offer all clients an appointment within three days. Please see our web site for more details.
Geographical Area
My clients come mostly by personal recommendation from throughout Chesterfield, Derbyshire, Sheffield and South Yorkshire, Mansfield, Nottinghamshire and East Midlands areas. I can also be found listed on yell.com, Yellow Pages and on BACP registers - please see below for BACP.

Further Information
Why I Became A Therapist
Apart from my professional status, I would like to give you a little background information relating to why and how I became a therapist........
Prior to embarking upon my therapeutic studies, I felt privileged to have an overseas career in the travel industry. One that spanned several years and proved to be a rewarding yet challenging experience that helped shape what for me, became a very personal journey. Part of my role as area manager was to train and facilitate personal development of the overseas staff. In doing so I drew upon my earlier training in Organizational Transactional Analysis but additionally I searched for other creative methods.
"Most intriguing to me was the idea that we could all be in control of our own suffering............"
For three years I was based in The Far East and South East Asia and whilst there, was introduced to Buddhist philosophy.
I arrived in Sri Lanka after the uprising in 1990 when the state of emergency in the country had just been lifted and it was declared safe again for tourism. Consequently I had a lot of questions about what had taken place. What struck me was, despite having lived through an uprising which brought about horrific and brutal atrocities upon the nation, the people of Sri Lanka upheld a personal dignity and inner strength that appeared unshakeable. I simply needed to know more about it.
I was very fortunate during my time there to meet some dedicated, and very patient Buddhist monks who encouraged me to spend time at Sri Dalada Maligawa (The Temple of the Tooth in Kandy) and the cultural center for learning. I was drawn in particular to understand the teachings in relation to the workings of the human mind, and the causes, as well as cure, for human suffering. Most intriguing and of particular interest to me was the idea that, according to Buddhist teaching, we could all be in control of our own suffering......
That was the start of my journey into the field of counselling and psychotherapy.
After returning to the UK I became a member of SGI (Soka Gakkai International), a lay Buddhist movement linking more than 12 million people around the world. Additionally I embarked upon my therapeutic studies eventually graduating from Sheffield Hallam University in 2001.
I am respectful of, and happy to work with issues relating to any spiritual belief system. I have gained experience working with a few such as; Christianity, Buddhism, Catholicism, Islam, Hinduism, Judaism, Sikhism, Shinto, Taoism, Mysticism, New Age, Occult & Magical.
