I am a qualified Cognitive Behavioural Therapist offering a confidential counselling service from professional talking therapy rooms in Whitchurch Road, Cardiff. I am a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and I abide by their code of practice. I qualified in 2008 with a Post Graduate Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) from the University of Wales.
I specialise in helping clients with addictions and mental health issues and I have vast experience in many other areas having spent years working with clients at Cardiff MIND and the Pen yr Enfys drug and alcohol centre.
Each appointment lasts for one full hour and usually I will see clients once a week. The number of sessions will vary, usually from six to twelve, although some clients may need fewer appointments or maybe a little longer to feel the benefits from one to one counselling.
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is a type of talking treatment which is based on the concept that your thoughts, feelings, physical sensations and actions are interconnected and that negative thoughts and feelings can trap you in a vicious cycle. CBT has been recommended by NICE (National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence) as the therapy of choice for a variety of different mental health issues.
CBT aims to help you deal with overwhelming problems in a more positive way by breaking them down into smaller parts. You're shown coping skills to break these negative patterns to improve the way you feel. By understanding our thoughts and modifying our behaviour, we can break the vicious cycle of negativity caused by these.
