About me

Hi, I'm Geraldine (or Gerri as I prefer!)

I'm an experienced counsellor and work with individuals and couples online.

In these financially worrying times, our mental health and well-being is being put under greater strain. The impact of this may be affecting your relationships and family life, you may be feeling anxious, worried about your finances, work or your business, or you could be feeling depressed and lonely. There has been a huge increase in the number of people suffering from anxiety and depression for many reasons.

Getting support now can make a huge difference to how you cope. I will help you to reduce your stress, anxiety and improve your self-esteem and confidence.

There are a couple of areas that I have a special interest:

Relationships

A healthy relationship is essential to our happiness, and yet all relationships face challenges whether this be a romantic relationship or issues with family, friends or work colleagues. Some of these can be communication issues, not feeling heard, managing conflict, parenting, trust, affairs, feeling unwanted or overwhelmed.

During counselling we can look together at different aspects of your life, work through issues which are causing you problems, identify your hopes, and improve your self-esteem for a more positive future. I know how confusing it can be to understand your emotions, I will help you to make the changes necessary to move forward with your life. I will help you to reduce your stress, anxiety and improve your self-esteem and confidence.

Domestic Abuse

I have worked in this area since 2002, and I have worked with many hundreds of women. I can understand and appreciate how alone and afraid you are when you realise that your relationship isn't what you thought it was, and how confused and fearful you are feeling. I can help you to make sense of what has been happening to you.

I have given training to Police officers, Social workers etc on the effects domestic abuse has on victims and their families. I have written and delivered programmes for victims, helping them to understand what has happened, and to help their self-esteem so that they will feel stronger in the future. I have worked with various Charities, which have included Wirral Mind and was employed by a charity (Zero Centre) which helped victims of Domestic Abuse and their children.

Although these are my special interest's, they aren't the only area's I work in. I have worked with clients with a variety of different concerns.

How I Work
I work online by either, Zoom, FaceTime, WhatsApp, Skype, phone or email. Each session is one hour.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
