About me

I specialise in marriage and relationship counselling - my training and experience gained over 17 years with the Marriage Guidance Charity, Relate and also in private practice.

Couples get caught in a negative cycle of conversations and behaviours that evolve over time and are difficult to resolve – there are sometimes just too many layers to work through or the emotional risk is too great.  The relationship may become distressed or “stuck”.  Each of you may long for closeness and understanding;  you try to communicate but...

•  your relationship is “distant” and you cannot reach each other?

•  you avoid conversations about difficult subjects to prevent arguments?

•  your arguments seem to go around in a cycle that goes nowhere?

•  conflict and arguments leave you feeling hurt, angry, resentful and very alone in the relationship?

•  you feel unhappy because you are not understood or cared about?

•  you’ve been hurt in the past and unable to forgive – an affair maybe?

Is this familiar?

I offer marriage and relationship counselling to couples and individuals.  My aim is to explore the issues and support you both to emerge from your current difficulties to a place where you can rebuild trust, re-discover mutual needs, gain understanding and build a physically and emotionally stronger relationship. Please visit my website page, "What Clients have said".

On a personal level, one could say I’ve had the “experience of life” where the many challenges I’ve faced have shaped and developed me. I have enjoyed a long and fulfilling career in adult education, training and careers advice sector - the decision to train as a counsellor was led by personal experiences and a wish to make a difference to others who are seeking change. I hope my knowledge, experience and training will be helpful to you.

I’m an accredited member of the NCS Professional Standards Authority Register and a registered member of the British Association of Counsellors & Psychotherapists (BACP) and practice within their Code of Ethics.   I’m also a member of the International Centre of Excellence Emotional Focused Therapy (ICEEFT).  I hold a full Professional Indemnity and Public Liability Insurance.

My practice room is on the Business Park South, Oxford OX4 where you will find a warm and safe space in my therapy room to explore what is happening for you right now. It will be a place where you are not judged but are valued, listened to and understood.  Your confidentiality will be respected

Finding a counsellor or therapist that you feel comfortable with is very important.  If you would prefer to discuss your situation informally or you want to find out whether we can work together, please do ring me.  You are under no obligation to book an appointment. My mobile No is:  07827224682 or email: gen.mockford8385@outlook.com

The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
